Where in Europe is a good holiday destination? |
My man and I are looking to go on holiday for a week around August. We can't decide where to go however. We are not much in to pubs/clubs, more into seeing historical sites and going on tours. Someplace that speaks English a bit would also be good, nice food and not too expensive... Any ideas? Thanks! (BTW-We live in the UK and I'm Irish) |

POLAND! POLSKA!
1. Most polish people speak english and you can get a lot of smiles and helpful advice.
2. Polish people are very nice and warm
3. Since Poland is a relatively small country you can travel to most of it without any problems. You can see many great castels and many cool sites
4. Not many people know about the great places to go in poland so it's not packed with tourists like Germany of france or spain.
5. Poland has a very rich history theat any tour guide would be happy to tell.
6. poland has many natural wonders: Mountains, sea, lakes, and many forests.
7. poland is cheap.
8. you can probably get a cheap airline ticket from UK
SO COME TO POLSKA!!! |

Barcelona is amazing. The culture is unbeliveable. I am never one to enjoy museums or art galleries etc. but i loved every second of it. |

There are a lot of places that you can go to. Places in Western Europe usually have friendly people, good food and weather and lots of historical places. They are quite expensive though.
I come from Bulgaria which is right here:

The weather there around August is very hot: I would say between 30 and 40 degrees celcius. Lots of tourists go there around that time and the food is of all sorts. There are lots of historical places to go and see and the people are very friendly. The flight from UK to Bulgaria is around 3.5 hours and the country itself is very cheap. A good quality dinner for two in a nice Bulgarian restaurant would cos around 30 leva most which is around £12. The only problem that you may face is the fact that the language spoken is Bulgarian and not that much English but as I said, we take foreigners and some people can speak a conversation with a few english words.
So, whatever you choose, I hope you have a nice holiday! |

Being French, I would say France right away. People DO speak English in Paris, and the food is great. It may be on the expensive side, though...
Another destination I would recommend is Prag, in the Czech Rep.; it's not too expensive to get around, and very romantic. In comparison, Venice is overrated.
Have fun on your vacation! |

Istanbul
It's full of historical places and tours. A lot of people speaks English and there are lots of British people visiting. All prices are reasonable, even cheap when you compare with UK. And you can taste delicious Turkish cousine.
If you decide to come Istanbul, you may ask me further.

Any capital so you can get a tour from there to the historical sites... I can recommend Lisbon, Budapest, Prague, and of course Athens (maybe the best choice if history is what you're looking for) since I've been there... Can't say 'bout the rest but i expect that every capital in Europe has a beautiful history... |
|

Cool

I'd say France or Denmark.
Have fun on your trip =) |

Get a cheap flight to europe....Ancona in Italy, then boat over to Croatia....Stay in Split, boats to small islands like Hvar...lovely jubbly!!
Cheap flights from Easyjet.....German-Wings-Wizz airlines...Sky airlines.....or even a cheap flight to Hong Kong with Oasis Airlines...then cheap flight to Taiwan...........or.....
Ryan air...in october...still a few seats left to Hamburg for 2 pence inclusive...then train to Berlin etc.
Not many cheap flights in june,july,august....so go in march-may...or september/october......i,m off to Romania(8 days) in late September...with Wizz airlines...for £84 return....can,t wait....and just had five days in Germany....£33 return to Frankfurt.
Its all about timing !! Avoid Switzerland,Iceland and Norway cos they are not cheap places. Try Krakow in Poland,a truly lovely city, and very cheap...and day trips from there to Zakopane by bus..(very nice)..and Auschwitz by train (very sad)................ if ya looking for beachy holiday...then use the teletext on ya television,ITV page 218....and fly to Turkey.
.....Enjoy. |

I have met many English / Irish tourists in Turkey (esp. Istanbul) and they have always said that they love it there. Many of them come back again and again. It is a nice change from life in England - a bit of cultural contrast, and you can´t beat the weather. Speaking English will be no problem, of course. The food? Just try not to gain weight while you´re there!! It is great!
Have fun!! |

I would say Italy - Puglia or Marche are two regions that are less expensive than the main tourist cities. The val di Susa is also nice in August -not overun with tourists and not too hot either. Be sure to visit the CVastle of Exiles if you like historical place. This is where the "man in the iron mask" was imprisoned - http://www.my-italy-piedmont-marche-and-more.com/castle-of-exiles.html |

The south of Italy match with your needs but august some places can be a bit crowded...still you can escape from the big crowd i advise you puglia, calabria, basilicata which are quite 'not famous' and stunning |

Southern Europe in August will be far too hot to walking around historical sites....I would just love to go to St Petersberg...it would be amazing...not sure of the cost of accomodation, or food etc, but would be a great experience I'm sure. |
