Without doubt, as far as the number of golf courses is concerned, the Costa del Sol beats the Algarve by 2 to 1. There are over 60 on the Costa del Sol, compared to the Algarve's 30. You need then to consider the availability of flights, and on that score there are many, many more flights to Malaga than there are to Faro, and as a result cheaper fares too. There is also a great deal of cheaper accommodation, both hotels and apartments, on the Costa del Sol, most of which are within easy distance of bars, clubs and nightlife generally. For the reasons given, my choice would therefore be Spain, but that is no disrespect to the Algarve and it's many fans.
Addition - Why the thumbs down? This is only my opinion, read my last sentence. |

Hi
I would say the "Algarve" in Portugal. There are lots of cheap golfing holidays advertised.
Just google "golf holidays in portugal" and you are spoilt for choice |

Definately Vilamoura. The Algarve
I went there on a golfing holiday and I don't even play golf.
I did enjoy it in the sun walking miles pulling a trolley for my partner! |

the algarve of portugal is a great place to go for golfing. it has many nice couses and golf resorts, too, like the dom pedro golf hotel in vilamoura. |

Definitely Algarve in Portugal. I have been to quite a few courses there and they are excellent. Also Portugal isn't quite as busy as Spain yet (for tourists) and offers great value for money. Definitely worth mentioning are Vale da Pinta/Quinta do Gramacho (2 courses linked together) in Carvoeiro) or even better Boavista in Lagos - a stone's throw from the Ocean and lots of cafes/bars/restaurants etc. In both those places you can rent fantastic apartments and the staff is very helpful. |

Definitely the Algarve and as feffa80 mentioned Lagos is the perfect base to play golf at Palmares and Boavista, plus there is a whole choice of activities to keep you entertained when not on the fairways - marina, several beaches and a
lovely town.
There are several other golf courses within reasonable distance of Lagos including: Penina, Alto, Pinta & Parque da Floresta. |
