my partner and I have just returned from a holiday in Istria (northern Croatia) and we had a wonderful time. we stayed in a farmhouse in a village called Glavani, about 20 minutes from Pula airport. If you want to check it out go to www.istra-zivot.com
Nigel and Sue, the owners, are absolutely brilliant and provide everything you need for a really good holiday. Istra Zivot is Croatian for Istrian Lifestyle and Nigel will show you around the village and introduce you to the locals and the rare bulls that are bredd in the village. Brijuni National Park is also accessible from Farzana which is only 20 minutes drive. Accomodation is superb and the village is well placed for the whole of Istria, which has stunning scenery and slendid, clean beaches. We were so pleased that we are already planning to return next year!
If you wish to go into Slovenia it's about 2 hours drive to the border but make sure, if you hire a car, that you have a green card and don't forget your passports!
We hired a car from welt car hire (www.weltrentacar.hr) and were well pleased to get a 1400cc Fiat Punto, low mileage, air-conditioned for about £18 per day!
Hope this helps!

Kind regards,

Tony

I´ve been to Croatia several times. It is gorgeous, friendly people, good food, and very economically priced. I stayed in Mlini (airport 15 mins away). Dubrovnik is worth a day or two...you must eat dinner one night at the Yatch Club--make a reservation and get dressed up...memorable! There is a "water-taxi" that can take you from Mlini to Dubrovnik...therefore you avoid driving and parking problems in Dubrovnik. I never had trouble finding people who spoke English and were willing to help.
I don´t know anything about Slovenia.

my friend went to Croatia on her honeymoon this year and had a ball. Not sure if they are big on spas there, but you'll find the rest of what you want. You can also visit some of the adriatic islands as a day trip or overnight. I know its a good holiday resort. I am sorry I haven't heard much about Slovenia. haven't seen it for sale as a holiday resort at all. Have a great time, whatever you decide.

i would definetly say slovenia. i went to both places this summer and i just thought slovenia was so much prettier, and different. the screnery was beautiful. Bled is a cute town on a lake with a little island in the middle soo cute. and there is a castle too. but up north the scenery is so pretty. the end of the alps.
Slovenia is definetly one of the cutest places ive been to in europe.
croatia really disappointed me. yeah it has nice seasides, but its quite touristy and less relaxing. i guess it depends if you plan to spend all your time sunbaking on rocks or relaxing in green countryside.

Definitely Croatia if you are into natural beauty. Dubrovnik is a beautiful town on the Aegean Sea, and has a rich history. The Plitvis Lakes region is unbelievably beautiful, with constantly changing waterfalls due to limestone erosion. You can also make a short hop to Montenegro from Dubrovnik.

I personally prefered slovenia but it depends what you wnat to do . Slovenia is less commerical we escaped to a nice littl house in bohinj near the big lake It was very traditional and the people were lovely. We went to Croatia just before that people were just as lovely although there were more people there so can be crowded its a lot more seay and beachy whereas Slovenia is better for the mountains but you can escape to a beach easy enough. You could always try both like we did it wasnt too expensive you can get good deals online. We got an apartment online in croatia for a family of 5 for 400 for 10 days and it was really nice and modern

Hi, if it yould be sommer, not autumn, I would say Croatia. Croatia has a veeeeeery long beach (check the maps), with lots of nice little, romantic towns. Slovenia seems me more to be "urban".
But at this time there could be raining, or it could be a little bit cold. If I could chose a place for my honeymoon, I would follow the sun and go to some warm place. And to Croatia you can go the next summer :-)

Go for Croatia if you like to relax and stand on a quiet beach. Slovenia is more energic, for young people (maybe sometimes disturbing)

Don't miss both of them. They are very beautiful, and cheap as the rest of the Balkans. Also do some research and try Macedonia.

Both countries can offer a great experience. Personally, I prefer Slovenia, as there is far more to do. Not to mention the fact, there is not as many tourists as in Croatia, which you may find a bit disturbing whilst on honeymoon.
