Austria, either Innsbruck or Saltzburg. I had a totally Doris-Day Christmas there two years ago. Sleighrides on Christmas day with trees covered in snow and bright blue skies, followed by hot applestrudel and drinks. The shops are amazing, you can take the ski lifts at Innsbruck and see all over the alps and the Dolomites, down towards Italy are out of this world. Follow it by New Year on the Mediterranean, fireworks on the beach. Nice! |

This is getting harder every year.
The Christmas before last I went to Prague assumming that I would be guarenteed a White Christmas; not a bloody thing.
So this year - it's North Sweden (Kiruna to be precise).
But North Canada, North Alaska, Finland, Norway, Probably the Baltic Countries - Tallinns quite nice in Estonia - and North Russia. |

Vienna. I was there 2 years ago and it was snowing the entire time. We went on the trains up into the mountains and the snow was like powder. Not like what you'd see here! Also on Christmas Day loads of restaurants and shops were open so that really made it a holiday with a difference. If you do go, check out their brilliant Christmas Markets. |

Vermont, if you believe Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. Failing that, Northern Canada (or Central Canada) is a sure bet. Alaska is another guaranteed site. And likely anywhere in the Scandinavian countries, which is where Kris Kringle came from originally.

Finnish Lapland. It is absolutely beautiful. And that's where Santa lives ... what better place to spend Christmas? |

Skiing in Austria is fun. There are lots of cute towns and Christmasy pubs. I went for a week for New Years once in what I think was call Hiershig in the Klein Walsertal. Actually it is owned my Germany but it is nice. Schladming in Austria is a nice ski town too. |
