Where is the best place to visit in Europe. great architecture and great outdoors?

I have been to Spain, France, Czech, Italy and Netherlands and hoping to spend 2 weeks this summer somewhere else in Europe and travelling around that country. Im big into Architecture and also really nice scenery. Also like to try out the local brew and some good food. Any help would be appreciated.

Probably all of Europe has great parts.
Some favorites, Turkey, Malta (very small though, good for max 7 days), Poland, Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Finland)

Athens/Greek Islands, or Copenhagen/Scandinavian countryside- oh now that I think of it, definitely Istanbul combined with Turkish coast or Cappadocia! Actually, Greece and Turkey may well be combined.

Malta definately. The size of the Isle of White with architecture from Neolithic temples to Norman houses, Roman villas and the medieval walled city (Mdina) which is a world heritage site.

Also beutiful views from most of the island & Gozo is a wonderful experience. Well worth a visit - but stay in the North of the island as the south is more industrial and the St Julians/Sliema area gets very busy and congested. Avoid Bugiba - tatty and run down & the sewage works are nearby and their pumps fail regularly so the sea is not as clean there.

Melliha is lovely - wonderful views.

Give it a try.

hey! did you considered Slovenia? I just fell in love with it. It is a small country but really worth seeing. maybe you have heard about an architect Joze Plecnik and his work - you could say that capitol Ljubljana is sort of his monument. The bridges, old houses... There are also quite many interesting castles (Bled with an island in the middle of the lake, Ljubljana, Ptuj, Sneznik), old manors and of course churches. There are also some Roman remaining left to see.
Oh yes, if you go to that country, make sure you see the Postojna cave. It is suppose to be the most visited cave in Europe with some little human fishes living in it. The inside is marvelous.
Definitely should see old coastal cities if you are into architecture.
See their website for preview of your planning.

I would really recommend it (it is not expensive :-))

OK this is gonna be a long answer as i am so passionate about this country!! Definitely, definitely go to Rhodes. It is a Greek island with sooo much appeal. If you love old ruins and things like that its the place for you. I went and stayed in a tiny little village called Kiotari which is quiet but so peacefull. If you want somewhere a little more lively and with plenty of history head straight for Lindos. It has the Acropolis which you can climb up or take a donkey ride up which has lots of traditional Greek shops along the way and a beautiful beach at the bottom. Also Old Rhodes Town is fantastic with some really beautiful scenery. I can't quite remember the name of it but there is also this one beach where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic. You have the Med on one side and the Atlantic on the other and when the tides come in and meet you can stand with one foot in the Med and one in the Atlantic. Not many people can say they've done that!I'm not really into partying holidays i would definitely prefer somewhere with history and culture and out of all the places i have been Rhodes is my number one favourite without a doubt. Plus it has the most sunshine of all the Mediterranean islands which can't be bad! Seriously though, go and i guarantee you will have a great time. (And if you do try the Greek dish keleftico and the Greek beer Mythos. Delicious!) Hope this helps. x

I would also recommend Barcelona for Gaudi Architecture.....its so different to anything else. eg Sagrada familiar!!

I personally like Belgium. In particular the square in Brussels (which was up there with any place I saw) and Bruges was lovely and quaint.

Another place with a little bit different is maybe Croatia...places like Dubrovnik which has cool buildings and stunning views of the sea.
