Depends on what your definition of "cool" would be. I spent a month out there this summer and had a few favorites.
Barcelona Spain- the party atmosphere is crazy, clubs dont close down till 6 am. The "Olympic Village" is an awesome place to party. Also theres a lot of history in the town including churches and cathedrals you can visit, not to mention the beach in warmer months. Great public transportation and easy to get to via train/plane.
Amsterdam- Gambling, Drinking among other "things" which I did not take part in, lol. Beautiful scenery including the canals and museums and wonderful people (also a very American friendly place where nearly everyone speaks English). Easy to navigate, great public transportation.
Those were my 2 top spots from my time there but don't forget about Eastern Europe, Italy and Germany which also have some sick party spots. |

Go to Rome. Stay at the Casa Cristina II. It's just 5-6 blocks away from the Termini Train station and very, very close to many sites which are within walking distance. Get a Lonely Planet book on Rome. They say that Rome is a city you find yourself longing to go back to. I didn't quite think that while i was there but I have to say it's so true. My plan is to take a younger family member when they are "of age" to experience it for their first time and for my second :)
We stayed there 10 days. My fiance and I got engaged there, actually.....:)
Go to Rome. Really soak it in.
Have fun wherever you go! |

Tough one. I'd say Budapest, but it all depends. If you want to see people trying their best to be fashionable, I'd say Paris or Milano. If you want to discover Europe and its histoy, Vienna, Prague and Berlin are good choices.
If you want to see older buildings rebuilt, bad soccer, windmills that aren't really there, and bad drugs, I'd advise Amsterdam.
In the end, try to get a clear picture of what you want to do, what you consider cool etc... You might end up in Reykjavik. |
