Where should I go in Europe? |
Summer 2008, my two best friends and I are planning a graduation trip to Europe. I've got Frommer's, and it's helpful and all, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of places not listed in Frommer's. We don't have any concrete plans yet, including where we're starting, what countries we're visiting, how long we're staying, etc. So, any suggestions?? |

First decide what you want to do
i.e.
travel around to a bunch of places
or
stay in a few places and get to know them well
learn about the local languages
or
speak English as much as possible
Eat whatever goes
or
stay in tourist type facilities
Visit castles and museums and nightlife
or
See vineyards
or
stay in a farmhouse or small village
or
stay in a fishing village
or
hang out on the sand by the sea
You can do any of these. If you want to speak English only, you'll be fine, but maybe a little tricky sometimes in the rural south. If you want to have an adventure, just
get a Eurrail pass and go and decide day by day and stay
in hostels. Just pack light.
read and make a list of some cool places you'd like to
have dinner.
see if you can take part in some national holiday celebrations
during your trip.
plan a few nice nights in nice hotels to relax from the stress
of walking and travelling.
take the Chunnel.
See how different life is in southern and northern Europe.
Rent a car and drive on the wrong side in the UK, just for
fun.
Observe some of the social systems in action ( or inaction).
Drink some German German beer. mmmm.
Look at a fjord.
go punting on the Cam.
Walk to the top of Gibraltar. take a ferry from there to
the african continent just for an afternoon.
Eat snails in france, mussels in Brussels, drink beer
at McDonalds in Belgium, have fish and chips in an English
pub, have weiner schnitzel, Swiss chocolate, french wines
and cheeses, herring in scandanavia......pasta in,
go to the Glastonbury Tor
go to an opera.
visit a greek island
take a few days to walk in the Dolomites in Italy or in the
Lake District in the UK.
Just pick a few things that you really want to do, and let
time just fill in the gaps. |

Italy and Switzerland are fun. Sweden, Denmark and Norway. If I were you, I'd take a cruise, that way you can visit many places and you don't have to keep paying for expensive hotel rooms. |

You simply have to go to Florence, Italy. The most beautiful artwork and buildings. Quiet, picturesque streets. Great food (all of Italy). Friendly little questhouses (pensiones). Anywhere in Italy is great. And good train service to travel around.
But there are so many diff places it depends on what you like. |

You should go to Normandy, cause it has a ton of history behind it that you probably studied throughout school. Or hit up Paris, cause its actually a gordeous city. Irelands beautiful, and Italy as well has history and beauty. Anywhere you go you are probably sure to have a wonderful time. |

Please Please Please go to England (technically not part of Europe)..It is beautiful and fun. Go to London, Stratford and Oxford (great pub called Jericho there) and make sure you get french fries from a street vendor after drinking in a bar in Oxford.
See a show in London (you can get cheep tickets the day fo the show at most box offices..still great seats.
In London take the tube everywhere and do not eat pizza..yucky!!
Also, France is wonderful..take a train ride and see the country side..or sleep. |

Depends on what you want to see. I'd say to keep an eye on the Travel Channel on shows like Anthony Bordain's No Reservations, Samantha Brown, and Not Your Average Travel Guide. Look for small, out of the way places to visit for a truly unique experience. |
