Where should I go in Europe before I turn 30?

I want to get as much of my travelling out of the way as possible before I turn 30. I love Europe because it's easy to get around and I'm not a big flyer, I just about handle 2-3 hours on a plane. I am the sort of person who hates being still, loves culture and buildings. I'm learning to be a photographer so that probably has something to do with it. Any ideas?

I would recommend Szekelyland (Transylvania), a region in Romania with Hungarian population. You still can see and photograph there a rural world which will be lost in the near future, natural beauties, historical cities.

Amsterdam: I went there last year when I'd just turned twenty It's only an hour on the plane which was good. There are lots of art galleries and museums, parks.
Plenty of cheap places to eat, main mode of transport in Amsterdam is bikes so you can get plenty of exercise.
It is also easy to get out of the city and into the countryside. I had a great time and I'm defiantly going back when I can afford it.

My best suggestion is you should go to Rome, see the city as much as you can, and then go on a little trip. Either you go north (through marvelous Tuscany), either you go south (you can see Naples, Perugia and if you have time, Sicily).
If Italy doesn't attract you, my other ideas would be Andalusia (Spain), Provence (France), Switzerland or Paris.

Barcelona, Paris, Rome, London are probably one of the best to see buildings and culture.

Barcelona definitely if you are a photographer. Gaudi's work is spectacular. Visit the Sagrada De Familia plus other sites. Also, it is worth getting a train from one of the main train stations in Barcelona to Stiges. A fantastic beach resort. The beaches are stunning, and the town consists of white buildings with narrow cobble streets. It has a lot of character.
If you go to www.ryanair.com they are giving flights away for £2.50 at the moment from any UK airport!!

I also recommend Soll in Austria in the summer. Most people go there in the winter for the skiing, but I went in the summer and it was so picturesque and hot! Even though it was hot, you would look up to the top of the mountains and there was still snow on them! Fabulous scenery, great local folk evenings, houses with a lot of character, all determine great photo opportunities! Be sure to take many panoramic photos!!

I visited Croatia last year, and also did a day trip to Bosnia Herzogovina. Although an unusual place to visit, I escaped the low exchange rate because they haven't yet joined the Euro. It only took around 2/3 hours to get there, and is definitely worth a visit. Absolutely stunning beaches. Stayed near Dubrovnik (the walled city) in the hotel Argosy, there is plenty of sightseeing in the Old Town. There has been a lot of money put into regenerating Croatia since the war, however there is still the odd reminder (many memorial sites, and crosses). I recommend the day trip to Bosnia to see the contrast (where no money has been invested). You still feel as if you are walking in a war zone, with bullet holes in all the buildings etc. It is worth walking over the bridge also (where East meets West).

Turkey is also another place worth visiting. So many places I could recommend!!

Why stop at 30? If you hate sitting still, that will not change when you get older! I am now 32 and visit one or 2 countries every 2 months! Don't plan too far ahead - once the bug bites, that is it!
Since when is Europe easy to get around? Just because it looks small on a map, does not mean it is small in reality! Flying within countries like Germany can be a saving of 5 - 6 hours!
For culture, Germany is a must. Not only is there a lot to take in, but the country runs well.
There are so many amazing countries to visit, the list is endless.

Rome! Although you have to be so careful when crossing the road! You can also go to Vatican City in a very short amount of time. The Vatican is worth going to.

You don't say how far off 30 you are.I certainly would not consider European travel until the weak pound has recovered against the euro you will find the cost of stuff crippling
