France is better, the way I see it.
Culture , the food the wine, champagne cheese, desert , Paris is the most beautiful city in the world.
I compare Germans to French as villagers. The worst cuisine I have ever had , they have no taste in food, they want to eat huge portions ( they think they are still i WWII). Germans are so impatient and rude always in a hurry. While in France you sit and eat it may take hours ,I like that. In Germany u will eat in seconds, always in a hurry. German dont know how to relax and take it easy.German still is military, I will never go back,. Once I lost my key for my room in a 5 star hotel, I asked for another one, at the desk in the hotel , she said to me: wait for ur wife. Germans are not refined, they still live in WWII.
Go to France you will have lots of fun, its a class country

After having lived in Germany, near the French border for 4 years, I offer the following. If you are truly conversant in French, then go there to enjoy sightseeing in Paris and on the French Riviera near Monaco. If you don't know French, then go to Germany, but only to the southern part, especially to Bavaria near the Alps Mountains. Northern Germans are as your friends said - too formal, but Bavaria is just the opposite. It's worth a couple of days in Heidelberg and then head south to Munich, Garmisch, and Berchtesgarten where the Alps are spectacular and the food excellent and the people friendly.

I have no idea where you are from, but, I know that people in France are not very helpful to non french speaking tourist, particularly if you are from the USA. Don't waste hard earned cash going there unless you are able to speak french. They will be friendlier and a bit more helpful if you TRY to ask for something in french, so if you do go, try learning a bit of the language first.

It is amazing that two countries so close to each other could be so amazingly different in their cultures. What region you are in and what you do on your vacation will also matter a lot how much you experience the people of a country. I would reccomend going to Munich and Paris. They are quite close to each other. If you have time explore the Alps, go to Neuschwanstein(the castle that inspired Disney to build the Disney castle), and Konstanz is a very nice German town on Lake Constance that borders Austria, Switzerland and Germany. You can bike through the three countries in a day. The Germans have big hearts and they love nature. I don't think they are as frivolous as French people but they all speak very excellent English--its amazing how good their English is. I love Northern Germany too. It has a beauty all its own and I like Kiel, Lubeck and the very most interesting city in Europe I've visited--Berlin. Vienna is another lovely option-the Paris of the East. Vienna is very East in Austria--but Austria is so gorgeous. Do as much as you can and people are people no matter where you go!

Having been to both places if you are a first timer to Europe I would go the France route for culture, art, street life and great food. You can always take a day trip or two to Germany as well. The museums, Eiffel Tower, art and food are worth your time.

Germany is a wonderful country with beautiful scenery and great food. Having studied German throughout my schooling I was much more excited to visit Germany. But enjoyed Paris much more overall.

Get yourself a Euro Pass for the rail system and see both if you like. Spend a couple days in each country. Be sure to see Paris and walk everywhere.

There is endless history exciting scenery, and great hikes all around you in both countries.

Enjoy the experience and try to speak the language wherever you go. That's the most fun of all, take advantage of the learning experience.

Have fun!

France, uyou can go to the effiel tower, what the hell can you do in Germany? Oh yeah and they say France has the best shopping!

Yeah, your friends obviously didn't talk to the people there. I found to French to be rude and stand offish (not to mention the fact they couldn't speak English) when I was there. Not to mention a lot of their hygiene seemed to be lacking.
I found Germany to be cleaner, the people are warm, friendlier and they speak english better as well as a lot more often.

I recommend Germany. I found Berlin to have a vibrant night life, it's modern, fun edgy, but still has lots of history and museums you can explore during the day.
The Germans know how to party- I lived there for a couple of months! :)

I recommend Germany, especially Berlin (a popular city nowadays), Stuttgart and München in the south of Germany. Stuttgart and especially München are very beautiful cities. It´s a myth that Germans are boring, the more south you get the friendlier people you will meet.

I have the opposite view France and then I mean Paris. Have been there a couple of times and found the people very arrogant. Have also travelled by train through France and can also recommend southern France, beautiful landscapes and the people are also more friendly.

I wish you a nice vacation, only by visiting a country, you get to know the country and the people.

BS, there are good and bad, EVERYWHERE. Do yourself a favor, rent a BMW MOTORCYCLE OR A CONVERTIBLE and go to both, the roads are magnificent and the countries are not that far apart. Germany is cleaner, southern France has the topless beaches, I give them equal status having been to both. Be prepared to pay around a buck fifty for one Euro dollar.

Germany cuz france is to popular lol ive been to france ill tell ya what its about lol :P

France , go to Paris.
Germany is Industrial , sad , boring and depressing. German cant show emotion they are like ICE. I feel they are still peasants compared to french.
Switzerland the german parts is as boring as germany, German are way boring the swiss the worst. Switzerland frech part is more alive.

Last summer i traveled to both Paris and Munich so i had the joy of seeing both places. Whoever said that french people are more fun is crazy. The French people would not communicate with us, (although we didnt know much french), it was hard to get around and they gave us bad direction. we even got robbed at the eiffel tower. In germany there is much to do, we went to a concentration camp in munich and visited the many beer gardens which are unbelievable. The people there were so friendly and just loved Americans. I guess it depends where you go in Germany i guess. I have been told that South Germany (Bavarians) like Americans the most because we liberated them first in the war. This is also the only place i traveled to in Germany. I guess it depends what type of vacation you are going on i guess.
