Croatia and Slovenia...quite different scenery.
I stayed in both Dubrovnik and Split for 15 pounds per night, it was a bit more in Zargreb and Zadar. THe cheap places were the private accommodation thats very popular there (but make sure to get offically regitered places as you can get fined (around $100US if the tourism police catch you...I met someone who did!)
Everything else is pretty cheap. I took a bus from Zadar to Dubrovnik overnight (its 12 hours!) which saved on accommodation, but not the most comfortable trip in the world.
Croatia has stunning views of the coastline....nice feel to it too.
Slovenia is more inland...I stayed in Lubljiana (more expensive than other places)..it called little prague, but a day would be enough to see the sights there.... I also went by bus to Lake Bled which is very sweet with a little island in the lake and a castle on the hill. Is nice to have the change....but its overall a bit more expensive than croatia.
I flew in and out via Ryanair at Trieste (Italy) which was the cheapest for me...took the train to Lubljiana (bus to Bled (1-2 hrs each way), train to Zargreb (2-3 hrs) and buses down to Dubrovnik , split (4hrs), Zadar (4 hrs) and then to Reijka and Trieste.
You could cut down on places to stay...I had 10 days there, but its so different and lovely its worth visiting. |

The Baltic countries are cheapest to stay in, or what about Turkey? It is almost in the EEC but not quite so it would be cheaper there. |

Bulgaria will give you the best value for your money and the weather in May is expected to be quite nice. Go to Plovdiv, Burgas or Varna, not to a holiday village.

We're going to Prague and it's costing £167 each (double) for 3 nights, I couldn;t afford to go anywhere for a full week at the moment and won;t let my bloke pay so when we get there I'll probably just fill up on the inclusive breakfast and stick to the 50p a pint beer for 3 days. heheheh |

I am gonna say something very weird: Come to Romania!!! but watch out, some romanians may ask you "Why this country?" well, it is a little cheaper than the rest, but still more expensive than Bulgaria. |

You can visit any country in Europe for 200. Just don't stay in a hotel and bring a bunch of PB&J sandwiches for sustenance. |

Go to this link: backpackingeurope.com - When you go to this website on the right there will be a list of countries. If you click on the country it gives a list of hostels that you can stay at as low as 13 euros per night. It usually includes a continental breakfast (usually not the greatest breakfast - but will do on a budget). When you click on the hostel it will give you an information page and from there you can click on their website, if they have one and it gives you a lot of information about the hostel.
Goodluck and have fun! |
