Santorini is a wonderful place, but you can find better beaches in other islands. Anyway, the classic white and blue homes are all over Greece. Every island of the aegean sea has this kind of homes and wind mills. I assure you because I am greek and I live in Athens.
Have a look here: www.nyloo.com and choose yourself.
*Faliraki is in Rhodes, not in Santorini. |

Santorini is where they take the pictures for the postcards you see of whitewashed houses against the blue sea and sky. The only thing is, its very quiet and there isnt much to do there. Why not try Lindos in Rhodes? It is really beautiful, with cobbled streets, lovely rooftop restaurants and grapevines everywhere. Most of the streets are only accessible on foot. Its real authentic Greece!! |

santorini sounds perfect for you, it has all the tourist amenities yat still retains its charm, it is a island what was half destroyed in a volcano hundreds of years ago and has such dramatic scenery and one of the views of the sunset in the world. check out trip advisor.com and look at the photos. |

Everyone told you about Cyclades. You saw one, you saw all, they are really wonderful.
Have you ever thought of the capitain houses of Hydra or Simi? With the floors, made of stone, they are like palaces?
Go to Hydra or Simi, and you ll see architecture... |

As everyone says, Santorini is the one in the picture postcards with the white houses perched on the steep hillsides and cliffs. But this is traditional architecture which you can find to some extent all over Greece and especially the islands. My own advice, for a first trip and wanting something traditional, would be to find a cheap and convenient flight to any SMALL island, and start planning from that. The smaller islands have a very different feel from Rhodes and Corfu and especially Crete, where driving the length of the island is like driving from London to Manchester. There's something very special about being on one of the small islands, where tourism has not had such a big impact to change the pace of life. |

I went to kefalonia last year and spent a week driving around the island visiting places. If you want the classic white and blue I would strongly recommend paying kefalonia a visit. |

Yeah..Santorini is a beautiful place. That is the most photographed island of Greece. Think you should go a bit more off the tourist trail though. Someone mentioned Lindos..which is absolutely gorgeous..but is on Rhodes ( the same island that has Falaraki). Try Samos! Not many tourists and only 1 mile from the Turkish coast. Really chilled out and only a 2 hour (beautiful) boat ride from 'Ephesus'. One of the 7 ancient wonders of the world. An amazing place!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Santorini is lovely but most of greece is gorgeous.
I go every year and have been to loads of islands and the main land, the main land is fabulous but it depends on what your looking for because the main land is alot quieter than the islands.
Corfu Crete Rhodes are all lovely and the excursions are really good.
I went to the main land last September and i loved it,,i went to Parga.
This year in going to Cofru, its my 2nd time in 3 years at Corfu.
I went to Zante a few years ago and i hated it,it wasnt the Greece i love so i wouldnt recommend it but thats only a personal opinion.
Have a look on the sites and brochures as there is lots to choose from. |

The island you mention is a typical island of Cyclades! You will have to reach Athens,I suggest by airplane, and then take Proastiakos(train) or a bus from the airport (E.Venizelos) to Piraeus(port) if you don't wish to stay in Athens. Santorini, for me, is the best and most fascinating! But you can visit also Paros,Mikonos,Naxos these are all close to each other and if you want quiet vacation visit Sifnos,Folegandros,Amorgos!
Google at these islands to get information and see pictures!
Have fun.... |

My fiancee (who is an Aussie) wants to see exactly the same Greece that you talk about. Apparently Santorini is where you should go.
Definitely avoid Falaraki, though I'm sure you already know this! |

Hydra is very special and is easily accessible by hydrofoil from Piraeus , Lindos on Rhodes is much further to travel and go here out of season (july and august are impossible !) I also love Symi which used to be a sponge centre until they overfished them...in the evening when the tourist boats leave... its....fabulous |

Santorini is the island for you.Its very picturesque but you wouldnt really want to spend a whole holiday there. You can get there on a day trip for crete.they have lots of transport options but do not buy off your holiday rep as its a rip off.there are loads of stores/shops in crete specialising in days trips ect which will give you a much better deal. You should get the fast ferry across think it takes about an hour and will give you a full day there.
When you arrive you can either get a cable car up to the town or travel up by donkey.Donkey sounds good but they are really smelly. The view from the town is great you will get loads of good pictures and in the middle of the bay is a volcanoe.I dont think its active but it did erupt in biblical times and is reported to be the actual physical cause of the 5 plagues of egypt.Ie scared the locusts in to town ect.All in all a very nice place to visit.Enjoy |

Santorini must be your first choice.Great views from Fira and great night life. There is an airport so may find flights straight to there.
Second choice Mikonos.Very Cosmopolitan, very crowed it and very "gay".Airport also.
The choise that may surprise is Milos. Extraordinary beaches, nice graphical villages, less night life, airport also. |

You could fly to Mikonos and do Island-hopping Tinos is not far and is an island for the Greeks brilliant history and not too commercial . Look at the Aegaen on a map and just go it is all fantastic, I have been all over the world but apart from New Zealand Greece is still my favourite ! Have a wonderful time . By the way you find B&Bs anywhere as the landladies stand by the harbour-kay - side and offer their rooms ! So, no need to book in advance and you can stay as long as you like! |

Santorini is the island you always see in pictures and post cards but I would go to Mykonos. Anywhere in the Clycladies island chain you will see the classical architecture. |

As others have said, Santorini, very rocky and not very green, the architecture is perched on the edges of cliffs, so contrasts beautifully with the blue sea or sunset, i defy even the most amateur photographer not to take stunning shots!
Do a google image search and that sums it up :-)
NB, not great if you are not too sure on your feet: it's very rocky and there are lots of steps!
Whilst you are there do a bit of islabd hopping as Mykonos also has what you are looking for. |
