As you are putting this question in the Greece section, I suppose you want to read a book related to Greece; well then I can recommend this books I recently read:
THE ISLAND by Victoria Hislop
or
BIRDS WITHOUT WINGS by Louis De Bernieres
or both.
Good question; difficult answer.

Buy Lesley Pearse's latest novel 'Hope'.She is the best author of all time next to Dan Brown. She's got lots of novels written over the years. So far the best are 'Hope','Camellia','Secrets','Father Unknown', and 'The lesser evil' If you're into novels before, during and after the war period, her novels are best.Dan brown's novel are also awesome. All of them,'Deception point', Angels & Demons, The Da vinci Code and Digital fortress...have fun reading! |

My favorite author is Andrew M. Greeley ... he's a Catholic priest who writes all kinds of 'stories' ... from S.F. to mystery and even some 'romance' ... but there is always a 'bigger story' about God and how God 'works' through people to make 'miracles' happen. One of my favorite books had a character from Arkansas who was a Baptist, and the 'priest' in the story said she'd be a GOOD CATHOLIC. "But I'm a Baptist" she said, and his answer was "Then you'd make a good Baptist Catholic" ... |

The two books I love most are:
1. Grapes of Wrath (a classic) by John Steinbeck, a Nobel Prize Winner. I have read this book so many times and I´m sure I will ready it many times again.
2. Angela´s Ashes by Frank McCourt, a both heartbreaking and humorous memoir about the authors´s poor childhood in Ireland. (He worked for many years as a teacher in US. As far as I know he lives in New York nowadays.) This book is absolutely worth reading. I recommend it warmly. |

I have a several favorite books & authors, but I'm a huge fan of Richard Bach and I've read his "The Bridge Across Forever" 5 times in past couple of years. I'm a fan of love stories and the way he's written this love story is just so amazing! You're not reading the story, you're actually experiencing it while reading it! |

The last book I read was "The Rule of Four" by Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomason.
My two favourite books are "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austin, and "The Neverending Story" by Michael Ende (a children's book, but still quite suitable for grown-ups or adults who are still children at heart). |

I prefer older writers to modern ones, therefore Alberto Moravia was and still is my favorite author. I used to like Kundera, but he is too ordinary nowadays and he is just repeating himself - however his first books really marked me. De Bernieres is a very good choice (already pointed out by others) and if you are interested in greek literature no one will ever surpass Kazantakis and Papadiamantis. |
