Which country is better; Norway or Sweden?

Well, Sweden is a bit bigger. Almost 1.5 times as big in land area, and twice the size in population. But that means it's more space in Norway. And if you look at the economy, wow, this is like comparing a rich country and a rather much poorer country.

GDP - per capita $53,300 (2007 est.) Sweden - GDP - per capita $37,500 (2007 est.) So your Norwegian salary is 50 percent higher.

GDP - real growth rate in Norway 3.7% (2007 est.), in Sweden its 2.7% . So the difference is only increasing.

It's easier to find a job in Norway, where the unemployment rate is 2.5% - in Sweden it's 6.1% .

and you need 6.7629 swedish "kroner" to buy one US dollar, but only NOK 5.8396 . That was in 2007, but the relationship between Norwegian and Swedish "crowns" is the same, even if the dollar is a bit stronger now. All this facts from the CIA factbook. And it should be absolutely clear- Norway is a lot better than Sweden.

In my opinion, Norway is the better of the two. Most of the Swede's I have met are bullheaded and obnoxious. I even have a Swedish friend who agrees that Norway is better.

Norway is cleaner, stunningly beautiful, richer, more expensive and the women are even more attractive. But Norway feels further removed from the rest of the world.

Better in what way? there are far too many points to compare, and everyone will have a different opinion on which point is the most important. I have ancestors from both countries.

i think norway is better in terms of government, welfare for its people, good education, and better economy cuz norway has more oil, all the nobel prize things, bigger cities, and more diverse culture.
but that means high taxes, yet its still like always in the top 3 countries to live in.
swedens also pretty good but its not as developed in terms of infrastructure. but yea they have ikea. lol.

I personally like Suomi better than either Sverige or Norge (better vodka, prettier women, nicery scenery, better music) but amongst the two you mentioned .. that's a tough call. My dad went to university in Sweden and an aunt of mine is half-Norwegian ..

Well if you take the UN's viewpoint then it's Norway according to the Human Development Index.

What other criteria should we use? Well you could say that as Norway is the younger country that it has to be better, "New and Improved" and all that. You could also say that Norway has come on leaps and bounds since gaining it's independence and Swede's are just bad losers. I mean letting the German's pass through in 1940 was a bit naughty as well!

Remember that even Sweden's greatest export, Abba was infiltrated by Norwegians, Anni-frid was born in Narvik. Norway has more winter olympic gold medals (and what other types of sport are there?). Also Norway is still independent of the EU.

I'm Norwegian, live here, and have visited Sweden many times.

Basically the same really. Had I been born in Sweden, I probably would have preferred it, but being born in Norway, I prefer it here.

The scenery is about the same, but the bigger cities in Sweden look really bad. Also they speak funny.
