Which international actor could you see playing Mustafa Kemal Atatürk? |
I'm asking this question because in Germany the shooting of Valkyrie started, a movie about Schenk von Stauffenberg, one of the most famous plotters against Hitler (he placed a bomb in Hitlers office). They chose Tom Cruise to play his character, which is causing a lot of protest under the Germans, who think a member of the Scientology Church (that supposed to be untolerant), shouldn't be portaying their hero. Who would you think would fit to portray a historical figure like Atatürk? Additional Details Darth Vader, you're right. After looking on google, I found out there was already a script for a movie on Atatürk, and that Antonio Banderas was the first to be asked for the role. |

Daniel Craig.
A good actor can do wonders. Yetkin Dikinciler as Nazım Hikmet (Mavi Gözlü Dev) was brilliant, for example. Alican Yücesoy as Mustafa Kemal had got the postures right. (Son Osmanlı Yandım Ali)
Despite Casino Royale, we know very well that Daniel Craig is a serious actor.
I'm sure the anti-Turkish people would start threatening him, though, and I wouldn't want this for Daniel Craig. Besides, who is to make a very accurate film to appease all of us, Atatürk admirers?
Edit: I could be poor Fikriye, who would look at him with calf eyes all through the film. :P
Edit 2: I've read an interview with Daniel Craig a while ago. He was proposed the part and he looked favorably, but the scenario was weak, so he declined. He also said he admired Ataturk. Isn't he lovely? Just make a search with Daniel Craig+Atatürk, you'll see what I mean.
Edit 3: Who the heck is David Craig, for god's sakes. Where's my head? Corrected immediately. |

I've heard that they proposed the character to David Craig. But apparently he hasn't answered yet. |

In terms of getting into the role and context, I'd say a Turkish actor, but it depends what your aim is in shooting a movie about Ataturk, if you want it to be a huge success all over the world you have to find an international star, so that people will realize it easily, so I'd vote for Daniel Craig, he has the charisma, I guess. |

First of all Atatürk was not tall, he was about 1.65m. All those Holywood stars are tall. Banderas is dark, Atatürk was blond with blue eyes. Besides, when Banderas was offered the role, some Greek Cypriots threatened him and had to turn it down. I don't know what they got against Atatürk. Why not have a Turkish actor play him? Some have already done it with success. You have to grasp the character and ideas of a historical person in order to play his/her role.
p.s. With all due respect to everyone's personal views, I have an almost obsession to Atatürk. When it comes to him, I tend to lose all my democratic values. Insult me if you want, but please do not criticise him in my presence. I liked Rutkay Aziz in 'Kurtuluş' and 'Cumhuriyet'. Alican looked like him but I did not like his acting. |

If an actor accepts playing this character, so then that will cause the end of his career...
Why ?
Because Hollywood will boycott this actor... |

Wouldn't a Turkish actor be the best person to portray Ataturk? International actors wouldn't be very familiar with him, if they have heard of him at all. |

I would say Marlon Brando but he passed away.(R.I.P.), Tom Hanks is one of my favorite character actors.
Although the name of the actor is very important , a powerfull screen play is a need, more important than those the director is the most important person in a project like this.I would prefer Francis Ford Copolla as the director.
Eventhough he doesn't look alike, Anthony Hopkins could play the padisah (LOL) or sir Winston Churchill.
Here is the team, lets shoot the movie lol |

Look, i am greek, and it doesnt concern me so much..
I mean he was not a politician of ours.BUT...I completely disagree to make movies about some historic(for the country they represent)personalities, for many reasons.
First of all, many times the appearence of the actor doesnt represent the reality.Second, the information transfwred in one movie many times they are wrong, because rhe only purpose is just to make a Hollywood production and to earn money of it, and fame of course.
I saw Troy, i really disgussed it, it was not representing anything true, and nobody could know better than the greeks, since it was refered to ancient greek personalities such as Agamemnon, and Achilleas..So many wrong things,so many weong things in the clothes of that time, everything, just a stared production of Hollywood. And certainly, we all know that the war of Troy hasnt been done for the eyes of Helen who was 45 years old at that time, but for concurs...
But this is the mythology, also in Greece, this is not the point...
The point is..that after their death, some personalities, of ancient, or modern history have to be respected i think, their memory has to be respected also by people who belong in oppositecountries to them, otherwise through a movie, many things for the sake of the production can be convirted, and just a show glamorous..
For the history of each country, the school, and the books are enough to remind and to honour evvery personality of it...And i am speaking generally, objectively as always, and about all the countries.. |

Darth Vader

Antonio Banderas or David Craig (though he is too tall to play Atatürk). But it'd be strange seeing Atatürk played by those characters. Maybe 10 years later, the technology might get better, and the face of the actor might be replaced by the computer generated face of Atatürk, which would be better I think. |
|

Qu'est ce que tu pense?

I think if somebody played Ataturk, he's have to be REALLY good. I don't think Turks would like a bad actor to play the part for him. My dad told me that the new James Bond actor (I forget his name) was going to star in an Ataturk movie...but I'm pretty sure he was lying, and trying to butter me up :)))
*The actors name is Daniel Craig...I knew it sounded familiar! |

Anlarms profile: "....I have been active in bi-communal peace-building activities since 1994"
Yes Anlarm, we can see this....Thats the reason you like to provoke all Greek Cypriots, in questions that are not even related to politics !!! You want to say something??? Why don't you ask a question about what you want to say and stop being off-topic all the time??......
Anyway, i agree with Leonarda, but if its going to be a movie........ then its gotta be a Turkish production since you know your leader better than any Hollywood producer..... |
