The answer has to be one of the smaller islands. On the bigger islands - Cyprus, Crete, Corfu, Rhodes, it's sometimes quite hard to remember you're on an island at all. The smaller islands really have a special feel. Santorini is especially magical - that's the one on the postcards with all the white houses nuzzling together on the hillside. But they are all special. All the ones big enogh to have direct flights from Europe or the US will have ancient ruins, charming capitals with good museums, some good beaches + hidden coves, olive groves, vines, traditional tavernas, scuba diving, a good range of trips by bus or boat, cheap car hire (you can see a whole island in a day), nightlife mainly in the tavernas - more personal and more fun that a nightclub - but you can find something more elegant if you want it, in small classy hotels. On the smaller islands, there's less of the raucous, boozy kind of nightlife which gives tourists a bad name.
The trick is to find a flight which suits you, to any of the islands, from an airport near you, and take it from there. By this time, the best flights are getting booked up fast for June. We recently got the last two seats to Zakynthos from our regional airport for the end of June. Enjoy yourselves! |

Try Crete. I went there last year for a week and it has what you're looking for. There are all resort-like hotels all along the northern coast. The island has many artifacts and ruins of palaces from a civilization that disappeared. The food is good, and there are alot of clubs and other nightlife. |

I'd say any of the Greek Islands (Santorini, Kos...), more unique & less Aiya Napa-ish than Cyprus. |

defo. greece without a doubt, santorini is a beautiful island to stay and you can go on day trips to ios and paros. i would recommened staying in ios for at least one night cause there are really good bars and clubs there, you will find it easy enough to get basic accomidation on the island when you get off ferry so no need to book in advance, but make sure the accomidation is in the village and not at the port cause its a long walk home after few drink. if you go to paros for a day hire a motorbike and explore the island theres loads to see. |

I would recommend Cyprus or a big island such as Crete. I must admit that a greek island is a great destination for a couple of days but after that theres nothing much to do.
And as it seems you are going to be there for a while so you will probably better off going somewhere with a large variety of activities to choose from.
Check the cyprus tourist organisation website for an idea of what you can do there.
