Which is the best Greek Island for children age 5 and 2 years?

Hi, I have 2 children, now 10 and 7, they have been to Kos, Corfu, Zante and Crete, I must say Crete and Corfu were great for all the family, although all Greek islands seem to want to welcome families.
You need an island with it's own airport really, check that. Some islands need you to get a ferry from a neighbouring island after the flight, that would be hard with a 2 year old.
So after the holiday we had in Corfu ~ Acharavi ~ I can tell you they have wonderful outdoor play areas in bars, so you can eat and have drink in what is effectively a park, it's a fantastic idea, to make everyone happy.
The beaches need research I suppose, but we found Acharavi to be a perfect beach, and resort. Just right for families.

All the Greek islands are lovely for children as they are all very safe,and the weather is beautiful.

KOS Island is a great place. Family friendly hotels and beaches, plus one or two Club Style Family Resorts as well.

Zante is a beautiful island, the beach at Kalamki is great and the sea is great because it is shallow for a long way out which makes it safer for children

Probably Corfu - but choose your area carefully to avoid the lager louts. Our family went to Kassiopi in the north of the island when the children were quite young (our youngest was 4). We all had a wonderful holiday. It's quite green and lush and therefore affords more shade if needed. It doesn't get quite so hot and parched as some of the islands further south. There was one little beach Agios Spiridon where only the Greeks went and it was very unspoilt with views across to Albania and very safe bathing.

Tingaki Kos, very much a family holiday, beach goes out for ages and is very shallow, weather perfect

I lived on Corfu for 3 years and as long as you don't take them to Kavos or Sadari, there are some beautiful, beautiful places... I was in Agios St Georgios South... i recommend it x x x

Sifnos is a calm nice island, very good for families with children. You may also ejoy Skiathos or Skopelos.

Hello,
Thasos is an excellent choice if you have children. It is very easy to reach, as there is an airport in Kavala, from Kavala you can take the ferry to Thasos (half an hour journey). The beaches are spotless and unspoilt, I went there as a child and I still remember the sandy beach of Xrisi Akti (=golden beach, in greek language).
Thasos is more suitable for family vacation, you can find there many famous traditional products, such as honey of the highest quality etc.
Other good choices for families would be Skopelos, Lesvos, Corfu.

Hi,
We have been to most of the Greek islands, but for us we found Zante was the best for younger children, Kalamaki beach as previously stated is great for the kids especially when the turtles are in view.
We are planning to go there again this year, check out the Roseland Hotel We could not fault it.
Zante is also reasonably flat whereas Corfu is a nightmare with buggies etc especially paleokastritsas very beautiful but very hilly.

For some of the reasons given already Corfu has the places to cater for family vacations.
Beaches suitable for kids are Acharavi, Arillas, Agios Georgios Pagon(north), Glyfada, Messonghi to name a few.
In Acharavi is also the Hydropolis waterpark, but the real fun on that is the Aqualand thematic waterpark. Great fun for kids of all ages. It also has hotel amenities, but is located away from the sea front.

Do you really think anywhere will be a lasting memory for a 2 year old. He would be more than happy playing with his bucket and spade down at the sand pit in the local park. The 5 year old as well, would be just as happy going to the local beach, without all that hassle of flying for a long time to get somewhere. Keep local so that they can sleep well of a night in their own beds and just take them out on short trips during the days.
