Spain...warm-ish days but chillier evenings & not too far from the UK.

Why don't you try the Maltese islands. They are warmer than the rest of Europe at that period of the year. They say that Malta is an open air museum and it's true. There are so many things to see. They have got some very good beer too- Cisk Lager and Shandy. The evenings are slightly cold but a cardegan will do.

cinque terre in Italy :)
http://www.cinqueterre.it/

The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all encapsulated in a national park by the same name.

Seafood is plentiful in the local cuisine and other italian dishes.. . yummie !

The temperature will be around March 57°/42°F.

The Swiss Alps for skiing. The weather is normally great and not so many Tourists anymore. If you prefer golf I'd pick the Algarve in Portugal. Already a very mild weather and great golf-courses, lovely for hiking.

You might want to consider the Costa del Sol where, unless you are very unlucky, the weather should be very nice. In March, you could have a great week, in Benalmadena, for under £130.00 each (flights and accommodation) if there are 2 of you travelling.
Easyjet offer flights on the 4th March, to Malaga, for just under £62.00, returning on the 11th.

You can book a studio apartment for around £130.00 from someone like "Holiday Lettings".

A great area to be, with plenty of places to visit during the day, cheap and frequent local transport, very reasonable to eat and drink with a large choice of bars/restaurants and a variety of entertainment at night.

The Algarve Portugal is a good place. we stayed in a self catering resort called Prado do Golf last year and it was great. Not expensive accommodation, people are great and speak English. We booked direct with the resort.
