Alvin is right about the phone, make sure that it is "unlocked" and will take a sim card. I always use WIND in Greece, and never had a problem anywhere.

As to my opinion, it's best to stick with Vodafone and their partners throughout Europe. They're great.
Mind that you'll need a quadband GSM mobile to be able to use it in Europe. U.S. dualbands WILL NOT WORK HERE, as they use different frequencies, and tribands will have restrictions. AT&T iPhones won't work at all.

It is probably COSMOTE but not so sure... I use COSMOTE and never had a problem.

get your phone unlocked before u leave you home country and u can buy a vodaphone sim car for 10 euros when u get there with 500 free minutes to use in eurpean country's
