It really depends on what you are looking for - a rollicking time with lots of drinking and dancing, etc.; a quiet get away; breathtaking beauty; a true Greek experience; lots of physical activities; lots of variety of activities; etc.
Different islands offer different things. Probably, if I had to recommend just one, I would recommend Crete because, as it is so big, it offers the most. It has quaint, seaside towns and quaint mountain towns, lots of hiking, spelunking, biking, etc., cities, ancient sites, private beaches, and so on.
However, for breathtaking beauty, I would have to say, Santorini. Imagine the Grand Canyon wrapped around a crystal sea, and dotted with white-washed houses and blue-domed chapels. The beaches aren't the best, but there are also some interesting archeological sites.
Alonissos is my personal favorite because it is a little off the beaten track and also looks a little different. It doesn't have sand beaches, but the pebbles are perfectly formed.
Then there are incredible places on the mainland such as Halkithiki.
Mykonos is a party island, and is also very beautiful.
It is hard to go wrong when choosing a Greek island, but you have to know what kind of holiday you want if you want to choose the best island for you. |

Zante - we went there for a week and were on a bit of a budget. Its a small island with lots of nice cheap bars, the people are friendly and its a really nice place to be.
We actually came back with money, which made a nice change!! |

i would say Rhodes. here est meets west. the scares left by war of this island are many and impressive, they have become the treasures of this blessed island, Turks and Italians invaders of it have come here over the time and left behind remarkable testimonies of their passage. in the old city you can find Knights - St. John fortress the best architectural achievement of the entire Mediterranean area. the place is used for making many films with plots that take place in the Middle Ages. theater and Apollo's temple, the Rhodes acropolis, the stadium were the first Olympic games took place, the famous Vally of the butterflies are these good enough for you. you can get more details from a travel agency if you are interested. i loved it |

1) Santorini, if you will go with your boyfriend/ Girlfriend, great
sunsets and view to the live volcano
2) Crete, your stay should be at least 5 days in order to see the
island try Malia for really great night life
3) Mykonos, nice night life great beaches
4) Tinos island, really nice people and picturesque villages.
My favorite is Santorini |

Lesvos. It's large, has all the regular resorts but can also provide you with solitude or beautiful nature. Anything you like. |

Rhodes - mainly because of the old town (a walled medievial city) is so beautiful - go back there in the evenings when it is quieter - eat at a restaurant and see what life might have been like in medieval times :) |

Agree with the guy above who recommended Stalis. Lovely place and also if you're into heavy nightlife then the resort of Malia is only a 15 minute walk/5 minute taxi. Best holiday I've had. |

Milos. I had a ball there. There is a great camp site there with Holiday bungalows and a pool set in the side of a hill. I want to go back now |

Hello dear!
Well, depends on your taste, will, desire!
Also, on time, availability, weather!
Now, if it is summer time, you want wild parties in the night, visits historic places in the day (well, after waking up) find small villages and large cities, excellent sea, proximity to airports, ...
Then maybe Crete!
If you want a small island and you enjoy calm vacations, relaxing in natural environment, quiet and the less tourists possible, then Alonissos, Folegandros, Nisyros, Gavdos, and dozens more!
If you want a small but cosmopolitan island, then Thera (Santorini), Myconos, and dozens more! |

I've been to Mykonos out of season, and I absolutely loved it. it's very beautiful with narrow streets, picturesque houses, great beaches, pelicans, fantastic food, friendly locals and beautiful sea. But I heard it can be very packed during the season. if you are not sure, why won't you try island hopping. Just decide which island group you want to visit, it can be Cyclades or Ionean, or any other islands, many of them are quite close to each other within a 1 to 4 hours reach. You can spend a few days at each island and pick up your favourite one to stay longer.
You can find some information about different islands on this site: |

Santorini! Its the most beautiful island |

Kefalonia if you want a biggish island with plenty of facilities and variety, though with a hire car you can easily find beautiful, secluded beaches.
Spetses if you want a quiet, idyllic holiday, with not so many facilities. |
