Who agrees? Military service should be abolished?

Does anyone agree that military service not only in tURkey but everywhere should be abolished. The situation in turkey is a disgrace to civilized or i guess turkey is uncivilized, society.

not to mention there is no need for a military in turkey anyways. there are no threats except the pkk puppets.

does any one else here agree that military service in turkey should be abolished. if so please state your reason and please use anecdotes ( little stories) .

I disagree:
As an expert on history and human evolution, I think that military is a form of defense, as well as a human improvement activity. This is a philosophical diagnosis, since it has major downsides as well as advances to it at the same time.

War over the years have perished many's lives in a horrid way. Throughout this devastating process, humans have developed new weapons, diversed strategy and dimensioned use of ethics and hardship. This is a harsh but most rapid way of human evolution, and is a compulsory process into preventing future crisis, scandals, conspiracies and disesases. Without war, will the technological advances be as intellectually and digitally developed as nowadays?

Civilization is a strident process, and many lives will be lost. Without war, there is no strive for improvement, there is no chance to prove oneself more prominent than other. Most importantly, without war, we seem to never appreciate peace and the loved ones around us.

Are you kidding? I think Turkish girls should join the military and you're talking about abolishing it all together. Oh sorry, I have to answer using little stories. Uhm...And the little red ridinghood told the big bad wolf "Oh grandma why do you ask these only from Turkey? Tell me when you make the other countries agree to that, then come, and we'll bake chocolate chip cookies and drink milk together"

Well I'm a Brit and think we should reinstate military service. IMO it would get the little troublemakers off the streets and teach them a bit of discipline! Maybe there should be a few more concessions, but on the whole I think it works well. mind you, a lot of people say I have an old fashioned outlook

"No need for military in Turkey anyways"???

Have you looked at which countries share borders with Turkey lately?

Bored
There are a couple of Turkish sayings or idioms which sort of defuncts your question, I'll let you get them translated.

"Her Turk Asker Dogar"

"Vatan Sana Canim Feda."

i completley disagree ..serving your country should be a source of pride for anyone

Leprechaun
I completely disagree.A country like Turkey, being located on a place like between middle east-europe-asia, having tons of historical conflicts, has no luxury to abolish military service.

Those are only young men's dreams trying to find a way to avoid to serve the country ,in a way, while they could hang out at bars with friends instead.

How do i know? I was thinking the same(well not abolishing, but to revise at least) when i was at that age.

("Abi en verimli çağımızda askere alıyolar yeaa" diye ağlamanın luzumu yok, 6-18 ay gidip geliniyor, verimliliğe hiç bi şey olmuyor)

"no threats"???
PKK itself is responsible of killing of thousands...
+ other terrorist groups
+ our very friendly* neighbours
+ when you think global warming is on its quick way, so are wars & debates for water.

Perhaps all the other countries should be disarmed but Turkey is the last one since its location

The PKK puppets caused the death of 30,000 people directly and indirectly.

Especially today, at least three neighbors of ours would barge in for land if not for a strong military. Not to mention the fact that Islamic terror and PKK terror keeps on threatening our lives. If the Turkish nation wants its independence and unity, you can't do anything to weaken the military just yet. Maybe in Utopia one day, when there are no wars any more.

You can open denial of military service to discussion, because I see that as a political standing, but you can't abolish any military in this world.

Why not start abolishing militaries with USA and Iraq?

Hi,
I'm very interesting your answer about my question:How do you defense your country without the national army ?
as a patriot Türk , i say allways "Kahraman Türk ordusunda görev yapmış olmaktan, her zaman, gurur duydum".

luckyman
it s the only place that in my life i drove a 50 tonnes tank fly with cargo aeroplanes to Bulgaria Bosnia Croatia for free.Plus i got paid 750 $ a month.
Now in my civil life i feel like a piece of crap.i remember every morning running with 200 buddies.it was soo healthy.
have you ever been in a swimming tank.yes sir i ve been.i passed the Tuna river in that tank.i cant describe the feeling.

But for guys like you we have some job to do in the kitchen or hamam.it s easy you help cooking for 2000 soldier.dont worry there are machines to peal potatoes.you only put them in the one man tall pan.

If it is a reduction of the army service length or abolition of conscription to proceed to professional army, I am in favor of the concept. I think it is the utmost necessity to switch to professional army when U.S. army tests battlefield robot with shotguns.

On the other hand, overcoming financial difficulties for a professional army is required.

I agree... we in france have no military service anymore... and i had a turkish bf, he's been in military service for 11 months now and it seems that it's a very difficult time for him... and the worst: he broke up with me last month, maybe if we hadn't been separated for so long, this wouldn't have happened!!!

DesertFox OIC
No, it should not. We need a large force.
