Totally Blunt what u just said is the exact example of what ur country's politicians do ;-) (and the other Balkan ones) when something's wrong in Turkey it's always Greece's fault which only attacked to Turkey once (1922) while Turkey did the opposite 170 times,so calm down a bit ;-) I don't see any Greek person talkin about Turkey or somebody around Greece in daily life - they even go holidays in Turkey - except far-right ones which r by no means majority in the domestic political scene |

Pretty mazing that non-Greeks answer to you to this question.
Shouldn't they know their own enemies rather the Greece's enemies.?
Well in ancient years Greece's enemy was persia
(for those who lack of history knowledge, why should "Greece" fight with her "enemy" against Persia?Pretty stupid right?
Not only this but since Athens were fighting with SParta for so many years, which one of them is not Greek?Or which the one for you is "Greece")
The most modern years ,Greece's enemy were Turkey.
Now is (politically speaking) ally through NATO.
Fyrom could be consider as enemy but I categorize Fyrom only as a country who wants to harm us ... |

Ancient times: Persians.
Modern times: Turkey. They were about to make a war with Greece many times, in 1967, 1786, 1984 and in 1996 there had been an incident that was close to war.
Not to mention Cyprus invasion and 1996, when Turks SOLDIERS killed a Greek Cypriot in front of the cameras.

In modern times its Fyrom ("Macedonia"), Albania, Turkey. Though to be honest we are more of Albania's enemy then they are ours. Turkey is more for Cyprus than anything unless you're so old you can remember 1919. |

I liked Renee's answer as land disputes change over the centuries.
Nowadays, I dont think that land disputes would characterise enemities, but rather than clashing financial goals.
For that you would need also to ask an economist that is aware of the global traits and market....partnerships and enemities....
Good luck :) |

The Ionian Revolt
The Greco-Persian Wars are a sequence of wars fought between the great empire of Persia and the coalition of Greek city-states. It lasted for about half a decade from 499 BC to 488 BC.The Ionian Revolt initiated the First Major Persian War. During 539 BC Cyrus The Great ruled Persia and most of West Asia. During his reign he first captured Lydia, which lay along the coast of Anatolia. The cities that were dependent of Lydia automatically became helpless and Cyrus next move was to capture those cities. The residents of these were then called Ionian's. Ionia is today based in Modern Turkey.
The Peloponnesian War ( 431 - 404 B.C.)
The War fought between the two leading city-states in ancient Greece, Athens and Sparta.
The Battle of Marathon
Athens was a famous city and the Persians wanted to attack Athens. So they took help of tyrant Hippias who originally a Greek, but was banished. He took support of King Darius of Persia. Filled with anger Hippias was waiting for such a chance. The battle started around 490 BC. Along with the army, they started moving towards Greece, looting and razing islands along their way. The army consisted of about 20,000 to 60,000 men.
Athens requested help from Sparta but was not entertained because the Spartans were not allowed to leave the city because of some religious reasons. So the only coalition was with the Plataeans, who had been an ally of Athens for a long time.
The Archidamian War
With the exception of Corinth, both Sparta and Athens were land-ruling powers. The war named after Sparta's king Archidamus II, started with Sparta accessing the regions surrounding Athens i.e. Attica. Athens mainly consisted of the peninsula of Attica and islands in the Aegean Sea. Athens had already removed their wealth from these islands and controlled them through navy.
Sparta thought that attacking the productive land of Attica, it would pressurize Athens to come forward to start the battle in a formal manner. Athens's army was definitely inferior to Sparta and allies. But this attack did not have much effect of Athens's because; their food supply mainly came from Egypt and Crimea.
The Spartans attack on Athens lasted just forty days in 430 BC, because the soldiers wanted to go back home during the harvest season.
Peace of Nicias:
The Peace of Nicias lasted for about six years. But small battles were fought around Peloponnese. When the Sparta avoided any interference in this matter a coalition of Argos, Mantinea and Elis. Argos revolted against Sparta. Spartan failed to break the coalition.
The Battle of Mantinea was the largest fought during the Peloponnesian War. It was the Lacedaemonians and the Tegeans against Argos, Athens, Mantinea, and Arcadia. Sparta won the battle, retained control over Peloponnese and reestablished their position.
Past enemies of Greece were Turkey, the Persians and the Spartans.
Hope I helped :). |

I have to say they are their own worst enemy, even though they keep blaming their neighbors for everything. And you need to write about someone's enemies for school project? Yeah, right. |

Greek politicians.
They create negative feelings where there is none. They create faux enemies to lull people to sleep and complete their own agenda at the background.
Turkey as a threat to Greece? Please! |

The worst and biggest Greece's enemy in ancient times was Macedonia. Actually, Alexander the Great and his father Philip II were Greeks biggest enemies.
"On August 2nd, 338 BC, in the shallow Cephisus River valley near the village of Chaeronea on the road to Thebes, the two opposing armies met face to face. On the north side stood Philip's Macedonians with 30,000 infantry and 2,000 cavalry, the largest Macedonian army ever assembled. Among Philip's commanding generals was his 18 year-old son, Alexander, in charge of the cavalry. On the south side, stood the allied Athenians, Thebans and Achaeans who assembled 35,000 infantry and 2,000 cavalry, the largest army ever assembled since the Persian invasion.
Closely matched, the armies clashed and while the battle ensued the Macedonian right flank fell back and began to retreat. Seeing the Macedonians weakening, the "Greek" allied general gave orders to push on and drive the Macedonians back to Macedonia. As the Macedonians retreated, the allied flanks broke rank and began the pursuit. Not realizing it was a trick, the allies found themselves surrounded and slaughtered by Alexander's cavalry. When it was over, the majority of the allied army, including the elite Theban Sacred Band lay dead in the fields of Chaeronea."-by Stefou, Chris. History of the Macedonian People from Ancient times to the Present
It's funny how modern Greeks, even today, find Macedonians their biggest enemies!
Edit:
Macedonians know the best their own enemies, but also we know Greeks enemies very well, and I'm sure that you all (greeks) know why!
And what does that mean "country who wants to harm us"???
How hypocritically!!! |
