I have been to authentic Macedonia of Greece.
The original and historical Macedonia!
There is also a (Slavic/Albanian)Macedonia but is a Balkan state and has nothing to do with authentic Macedonia of Greece!
If you want to come in authentic Macedonia of Greece you will see no difference with the rest of Greece. The same great country.
In authentic Macedonia of Greece you will be able to visit the ancient monuments and cities of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia!
The city of Paella,the birthplace of Alexander the Great, Vergina were you can see the famous Royal Tombs of the ancient (Greek)Macedonians!
If you plan to visit the
modern (Slavic/Albanian)Macedonia then don't worry it is a small and beautiful country will low crime rate. But it has ethnic tensions between the Slav-Macedonians and Albanian-Macedonians so try to be careful!

Hi fellow traveller.. I have been to both Skopje, (i was born there) and i have also visited Greece so i should be able to be a good source for you.

First you'll notice that you are having varied responses, that is becuase you have confused the state of Macedonia in Greece with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Mackedonjska in the courntry north of it which the locals call Skopjeslavia..
where I was born.

Skopjeslavia is a bit different than Greece.. Greeece is more sun, beach and tourist frindly, and a more historical tourist location....

Skopjeslavia has a mix of Bulgarian and Albanian heratige, you will not find beaches but you will find wonderous mountain ranges with beutiful scenery, kind of like the scotish highlands... most of the countries population are either farmers or sheppards, and there is a more rustic feel to skopjeslavia than cosmopolitan Greece..

my favourite time to go back and visit is in mid August when the locals celebrate Vardaoshini day, the day when their sheep god of the harvest gav onto them the secrect of cultivating the earth...

Unfortunatly crime is a problem in the main capital of Skopje... but do not worry this is mostly between family feuds, you see marrying between siblings is aloud in Skopjeslavia and there is a lot of jealousy, so long as you do not have sex with a married woman or married sheep there you will not get into trouble.

I wish you the best of luck on your journeys and remeber "koloslavomacedones pa na gamithite"... common greeting in Skopjeslavia meaning: may the sheep god be with you...

oh yes and remeber to dont be shocked if the locals start sniffing you crotch, it is their way of shaking hands...

There is a bin confusion since one of the broken parts of Yugoslavia with albanian and bulgarian populations, having no national identity, decided to name itself after the Greek city state of macedonia, to honour probably that parts of its land were once the suburbs of that great Greek City state. Other than that, there is nothing else which is "macedonian" in that albanian/bulgarian country. The real macedonia is still in Greece. Since you are refering to skopje, it is slightly cooler than Greece, since it is situated north of Greece. Unfortunately this tiny country is unstable with big unemployment and high crime rate.

I have been to Macedonia, and Macedonia does not differ from GREECE because MACEDONIA IS GREEK!!!!!! Yes, it is hot.

Macedonia is a part of GREECE.The country calling itself Macedonia, also know as FYROM has stolen its name from the Greeks.Just look at their flag and see that it is a copy of Ancient Macedonia!Now if you meant FYROM i have never been there but I think it is not as hot as Greece.

The country in the north of Greece that claims the name of "Macedonia" is nothing but a former yugoslavian repuplic, the south part of yugoslavia. It has nothing to do with the historical Macedonia. This naming problem is hurting many Greeks who watch their history getting stolen.

Ancient Macedonia was a part of Ancient Greece just like Attica or Lakonia (where the Spartans lived).

The crime is high because 40% of the population is albanians. The albanians are an annoying race of thief, murderers and rapists.

That country is usually 5 oc degrees colder than Greece.

That country is not rich and never will be.

You can buy cigarettes and alcohol everywhere there since you can have everything if you pay (and it's cheap).

Macedonia does not differ from Greece.I am talking about the authentic,original Macedonia!
There is a political game that it has been played for a few decades now (our governments were sleeping for ages) and Greece tries to persuade the world for what it really belongs to Greece.Isn't it unfair?
Well,the country of Skopjie or Fyrom or whatever should change its name and we all are going to live in peace in our location.The standards of living there are not so good and of course it has nothing to do with the real Macedonia ,as it concerns the tourism.I suggest to visit the real Macedonia and Fyrom so you can have your own opinion.

Macedonians were regarded as barbarians to Greeks. When Macedonia raised up, poor Hellenic cities were forced to allow Macedonian sportists to participate in Olympic games, not before, not after.
Modern Greece is artificial state, made by Brittani. In its borders Greece consumed clean Macedonian, Albanian, Bulgarian, Turk, Epirotic territories.
Where Greek soldiers have come, supported by Brits, they made ethnically cleansing.
Only USA President, Mr.Wilson, fought for independent and united Macedonia, but he was over voted in Versailles 1918.
Today Macedonia is an old country and a young state, fighting for its place under The Holly Sun.

Actually i live there and of course we differ from Greece. As SOLUN said: "Macedonia is not that rich economicaly, but rich in culture". The crime rate is low (and lower and lower every day). As 4 alcohol and cigarettes you have to be 18+

I cannot tell you the differences with Greece but I can tell you a lot about Macedonia due to the fact that I have not had any extensive travels in Greece.

Yes Macedonia it is rich with stray dogs, rubbish, and peppers.
Age consent? If you got the money you can buy it.

MACEDONIA has MACEDONIAN speaking people!!! Much friendly nation!!! The crime rate is low in the capital city of Skopje!!! MACEDONIA gets really hot in the summer and has wonderful beaches to visit!! Age consent I believe is 18!! But like in all European countries this age differs once in a while!! MACEDONIA isn't a rich country yet but it is rich on its History and People!!! MACEDONIA is back on its two feet again after breaking up from Yugoslavia!!
