In addition to above, the new American administration has promised to help end the unjust isolation Northern Cypriot Turks are being subjected to.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is only recognized by Turkey.

The Republic of Cyprus as a whole is recognized by the UN and has a seat in the UN General Assembly.

This is the unacceptable situation in Cyprus today

The UN sees the situation in Cyprus as an ILLEGAL Turkish military occupation

Following you will find one of the many UN resolutions speak for it self.

Resolution 367
In absence of progress condemns the unilateral decision that declares part of the Republic of Cyprus as "Turkish Federal state"
http://www.un.org/documents/sc/res/1975/res367e.pdf

The occupied area has no President Since its not a recognized government. The Turkish Cypriot leader is Mehmet Ali Talat

More on the turkish cypriot leader here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehmet_Ali_Talat

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is not recognized by any government except Turkey. In fact, a few years ago the organizers of the Turkish Formula 1 Grand Prix were fined 5 million Euros for having a government representative of Northern Cyprus as one of the trophy presenters. Members of government quite often handle such duties on the podium, but only if they are from a commonly recognized government. Using a representative from Northern Cyprus was seen as a political statement, which is not welcome on the podium.

No there is NO formal recognition of Northern Cyprus in the United Nations, only Turkey recognizes it...the fact is that Cyprus is still recognized as an independent state and all the countires of the world recognize GREEK CYPUS...Cyprus (Greek) belongs also to the European Union and has a develop economy, the north is a wasteland...long live Nagorno-Karabakh in Armenia, beat the Turks their, we can beat 'em anywhere!!!!!!!!!!
