The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is not recognized by any government except Turkey. In fact, a few years ago the organizers of the Turkish Formula 1 Grand Prix were fined 5 million Euros for having a government representative of Northern Cyprus as one of the trophy presenters. Members of government quite often handle such duties on the podium, but only if they are from a commonly recognized government. Using a representative from Northern Cyprus was seen as a political statement, which is not welcome on the podium. |

The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is the head of state of the TRNC. Rauf DenktaÅŸ was the first and founder president of TRNC, and retired in 2005. His position was taken over by Mehmet Ali Talat the current President.
