My favorite Greek singer was Yorgos Kiyriakos Panayotou.
Actually he was English citizen( english mother), and he's originally from South Cyprus.

He was even one of my favorite singers, but in the early 90"s his music changed and he started to lose his creativity, and I began to be fed up...

But his voice is still marvellous, the song just doesnt' matter...

Maybe you recognize him, if I tell you his star name : George Michael

Listen to " Careless Whispers", "Everything She Wants" , " Hard Day", and you will be amazed by his composer genius and his incredible voice

Xatziyannis is brilliant, always top of the charts, I have seen him live, his music is fab. There are so many great singers in Greece.

Hi Eras,

I liked all Greek Songs. It sounds very nice and to make me feel better.
But especially I like Anna Vissi and her songs 'To poli poli, Eleni, Epilogu like that.

SoBelle probably means Alkisti Protopsalti, indeed a great voice, I must agree. "Favourites" are by definition a subjective matter. Tune in to Greek radio stations and listen for yourself to find out what and who you like.
Many sites will give you access to Greek radio. Google it.

for not too pop/dance or folk kind of music(like Helena Paparizou and Anna Vissi) but closer to rock , I like Alkinoos Ioannides,Socrates Malamas,Nikos Papazoglou Haroula Alexiou,Alkistis Protopsalti and so on...For bands ,Pyx Lax,Xylina Spathia,Diafana Krina...I also love Elias Zaikos a guitar player with his blues band the Blueswire !

listen to www.diesi.gr and www.melodia.gr if you want a piece of good greek music(you won't hear any Paparizou or Vissi there...).

My favorite all time singer is too old school for everyone on this forum - Stelios Kazantizidis - He took Greek Music out of the rembetika and onto the mainstream. Plus, Stelios was popular in Turkey and Israel. Vasillis Karras would be #2 but he's getting up there in years.

Now, everyone likes Kalomoira - I like her as well but she's not taking my attention away from Kati Garbi.

I assume you mean Greek singers! I love Alkinoos Ioannidis! His voice takes me far away!!
I like also Hatzigiannis, Parios, Iro and others! These days I listen to a new Greek band called Ammos! They have great songs!

even though I am from southern USA I have many Greek CDs and one I love is of Alkis?????? She has a wonderful voice...am sorry can't spell her name here but am sure a Greek will know who I mean since she is well known. To hear her sing the song Memories gives me chills...beautiful

I like the voice of the guy who sings in Audioslave. my favorite song from them is Heaven's Dead. It's a romantic song.

I suppose you must be speaking of Greek singers... Then, it's Psarantonis. I also like old Dalaras's stuff even though he's gone veeeeery old lately.

Second part: a good rock band from Greece was Axis. But that was back in the early seventies.

I already answered on similar question, I just wanna to give one more vote for Mihalis Hatzigiannis. I think he is fantastic, I love his music. I am not greek too, and from all greek music he is definitely best for me.

:-) I don't know so much Greek singer. Yeah there are Helena P. and Anna Vissi but I didn't like Helena so much. I think Anna Vissi is good ;-)
