Turkey-France relations got worse after 2001, when we realized that a 60 million people country was stupid enough to let a 400 000 Armenian minority rule their policy.
With fake tears, with some flattering words, with some "clever" incitation to racial hatred, and with some "gifts" to politicians, the Armenians of France managed to fool French people who are so blind and brain-washed.
By the way, the French have become much more "islamophobe", especially regarding the immigration and the EU question.
And I think that Sarkozy has also a serious mental issue too with that topic, and he loves to use the "fear of Turkey" as a politic weapon when he's talking to the audience.

And I know what I'm talking about : I am a 35 years old Turk living in Paris for 33 years.

Selena
Basically, the French don't like foreigners...no Americans, no Germans, no Brits, no Belgians, no Algerians, no.......and no Turks.
Foreigners take away all their jobs! Quite honestly, I would never even consider living in such a country!

Tanju
Hi Kim,

Leprechaun is right and I agree and I also find this article;

'2003 year made a stagnant beginning for political relations between Ankara and Paris, after Turkey was given appointment in 2004 for taking a decision on starting of full membership negotiations in the European Union's (EU) Copenhagen Summit which was held at the end of 2002.

Although there was a partial improvement in 2002 in bilateral relations that were earlier harmed by the French parliament's approval of a law that recognized so-called Armenian genocide, France's refraining from extending support to Turkey for its negotiation date disappointed the Turkey.

Although political relations between Turkey and France were partially normalized in 2002, France played a role with Germany in delay of setting a negotiation date for Turkey. The attitude of France caused a serious disappointment in Turkey and it also became an obstacle in front of improvement of bilateral relations between the two countries in 2003.'

In my opinion, Second paragraph is the important and big disappointment for Turkiye and All Turkish People...

some reasons.

They hate us because we are Turks
They hate us because the majority of us are Muslims
They hate us because they have never been able to colonize our country and enslave and genocide our people like they did in algeria and many other places.
We hate them because they hate us

Actually Turks and French had very good relations till the 19th century. France was the biggest ally of Turkish empire in Europe. But today,France is one of the first countries which diaspora is very influential. And they will take every opportunity to hit Turkey in every area possible.

They aren't enough to be friends.

France hates Turkey and supports Armenians.

I agree with Selena. Give her the best answer.

Slick Rick
Why not.
No one else likes France much either. why target the Turks , name a country and the status is the same.
I think the French have problems conversing with strong confident people who like personnel Hygiene . Don't get me wrong I am not saying all French people are stinking cowards that would be racist and that's been banned in the UK .

ErAs
slick rick has the point; i think most french people are racist to other nations so it is normal to see that they are against a country of which people are muslim even the country is on the line of laicism and never religionist as much as europeans are...

Turkey and France have always been in a stormy relationship since the 16th century ... sometimes best of friends (for some 20 years or so) then kinda at odds for another 20 or 25 years.

Now the cycle is down. But presumably after 2020 or so the cold winds will turn out to be some nice breeze between the two countries.

Imperial American
France is deftly afraid of Turkish membership in the European Union.

I don't think there is any kinda fight. Thats just a 'game' politicians play, i.e. they protest France for some issues as a satisfying answer to Turkish (mostly nationalists) that "yeah, we support your idea"!
But taking a look at the rate of relationship between these countries, you get that there is a normal relation and that grows, of course.
Politics is not that pure!

ADD:
Take one thing as example: When French parliament passed the law to recognize Armenian Genocide of 1915, Turkey really had to protest France, else government would be criticized a LOT by nationalists for being silent for that. But after that, the France-Turkey trade has increased.

Another:
Armenian Genocide Bill in U.S. Congress, again Turkey officials protested a lot, even Turkey called back Turkish ambassador from US but just a few times later relations got 100% normal and US helped Turkey in attacking PKK bases in Iraqi Kurdistan. Again, Erdogan's government would be going to lose more popularity if had took no action...
So, this is what called REALPOLITIK !
