Why are all americans so afraid to try foreign food (bosnian) or go to a foreign country like bosnia???

I AM BOSNIAN AND IT'S REALLY FUNNY HOW THEY ARE SO SCARED TO...VISIT A PLACE LIKE BOSNIA... IF U WENT THERE..I GUARANTEE YOU YOU WOULD CHANGE YOUR MIND. JUST BECAUSE IT WAS IN A WAR DOESNT MEAN YOU'RE GOING TO GET KILLED JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE AMERICAN... WE ARE ACTUALLY VERY NICE PEOPLE IF U HAVENT NOTICED........MAKES ME MAD!!!

I actually love Bosnian food. There is a cafe in the city I live in that is European and they have 3 dishes that are true Bosnian dishes. My boyfriend is Bosnian and we plan on visting the country sometime in the future. I am very open-minded. I understand where you are coming from. My boyfriend wants to open a Bosnian cafe/resturant but so many people aren't interested!

ici Bosnia!

Don't let it make you mad. American exposure to Bosnia is of war and strife. There are plenty people around who would love to visit Bosnia and to talk to you more about your culture. Every place has ideas attached to it. I am from the south, and a lot of people expect me to be stupid and racist ( I definitely am neither). Just remember that you represent Bosnia, and you seem really cool, so the more poeple you meet, the better people will begin to feel about Bosnia!

In part because of that CNN television channel. Americans are afraid of the unknown. Plus, they think they will get hit by a sniper, a mine, a bomb, or what else! It's a matter of the image of war that lies very deep into American minds.

As for the food, same thing as for the war issue. Fear of the unknown!

I've been to ex-Yugoslavia and found it beautiful (maybe because I'm Canadian!)

Not all Americans are like that, believe me. I know a guy from NY who went to work in Tuzla (and he's not a soldier or sth like that). But, generally, think about yourself. Would you rather go to some peaceful and rich country, than somewhere you don't know what to expect (especially if you were from a country that has never experienced war). However, I understand your rage. Just calm down, things will change.

Hi-
I have an Italian friend that I met in Vietnam a few months back. He told me to travel to Bosnia for the culture and the people and the beautiful scenery. He also said it was a good deal ( meaning not that expensive ) Can you give me some tips on places to start my journey. Where to go? What is the exchange rate? Thankyou, Little John

I think it all boils down to fear of the unknown! So many people are set in their ways and scared to experience something new for a change.

i don't think they are afraid. they simply think that they are the best nation in the world and the rest of the world sucks. i know that from native americans and i have to confess i don't like them.

The press coverage of the recent wars and warnings from the State department hurt the perception of the region. My wife is from Colombia and most people are scared to go there as well because they do not know anything beyond the news. I go once every 18 months and am perfectly comfortable, but honestly, I was apprehensive the first trip and would never had gone if it wasn't for her.

I take it you are not a Serb..You need to confirm your email address before anyone can email you.. But to answer your message the last I knew was the Serbs hated people from the US

The fear of going to Bosnia is borne out of the troubles a few years back. It takes a long time for a reputation to build up, and even longer to shake a bad one. Ignorance I know, but true. I'm sure people didn't visit the UK or Japan or anywhere like that for a long time after a war.

And the food, I think many people have got set into thier ways and eat a set pattern of food and deviate little from that.

Personally, I would love to try Bosnain food and see what it was like. There may be a way to get Bosnian food to be more mainstream. Just think that 40 50 years ago few people in the UK had ever heard of curry, nevermind tried it. Now someone is odd if they have never even tried curry, and it was voted as the nations second favorite take out meal.

I feel for you, and I will make a concerted effort to go to Bosnia for a holiday sometime soon, I believe the scenery is something else. :-D

Ummmm danger. You are at war, and anywhere as closely affected by a war like that is scary. I dont think we fear it because everyone is after Americans, we are scared because its dangerous for those who live there too. I would love to see a lot of the world, the fact of the matter is that there are bombs going off and shootings heard every day for so much of the world. Ill wait until there is no war in the area, then I would love to see it!

I was in Zagreb in 1998 and thought that area was really beautiful I am sure after the war it is not the same. People are just afraid to travel somewhere where there is ongoing conflict.

they been told that if american person found in such country they would eat em, and they been told by the depratment that those country who are against the american diplomatic, or doenst agree with them all the way, they call it ( dengerouse country ) it think you all have to work for make people come to your country by showing the hertage of the country, i am from Syria, and american govement dosent like our govement, but we have many american people visiting the country and they all declare that we found Syria friendly and nice country, and they said , we never felt scary or there is any thing to be worry about...it is your work you have to tell others about your country........wish you all the best..regards
