Hi
There are a number of reasons for the number of Polish people moving to the UK. One is that they can live here and work here on the minimum wage and send money home to their families as the cost of living in Poland is incredibly cheap compared to here so to send home ÂŁ25 a week is a small fortune!! Also, compared to Poland, this country appears to be a better place to live and with the freedom of movement between EU countries it is easy for Poles to travel over. I dont believe that their goal is to settle here, I believe they will live here for a few years then go home when they have made their families comparatively wealthy, oh and got a better education at the same time!! Although it seems unfair, British people have done this for years. Germany, South Africa, Hong Kong even Australia and the US have all been 'invaded' by British workers looking for a better life and more money. But its okay when we do it!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps
Happy Philosophising!!

because they earn more money here than in Poland. And they are hard working (although the one I work with is dead lazy!) generally......... |

Why are so many Brits in the USA taking OUR jobs? New England, Florida, etc. Go back to England Brits. You're not wanted either. Nor are you perfect. |

Why is there so many British (once Great Britain) people in Spain?
People move around to live and work, supply and demand, that's all. The Government deems it necessary to let Poles in to work for us and we give them work, so why should their goal not be: to work and live in the UK? |

Because they earn more money here and do the jobs we don't want to do!
We have bigger problems than Poles coming in - they aren't the ones to worry about! |

Actually Polish people like USA more. There are a lot of Polish people in America and they are one of the biggest national groups. Especially in Chicago, Boston and NY.
Honestly, I do not think that UK is a very good country to work in. Expensive, boring people etc.
I think the only reason for Poles to go there is that UK is close to Poland and they can practise ............. yes, English :-)
bookworm1171 - good answer !!! |

I wonder if people made the same complaint in 1940? |

Why are so many British people in France, Spain and Italy?
Why are so many Brits, Germans and Dutch buying property in Poland? Once again the Poles get the dirty end of the stick.
While the Poles do the dirty jobs in the UK, to earn money to one day buy a home of their own, the rest of us are in Poland trying to buy their houses and land.
I don't think their goal is to live and work in the UK. Lets face it the UK is a dump. The Poles may be Poor but they are not stupid |

They want to earn money to start their own business in Poland. Most of them want to come back to their country because they have there their families - many of them left their children and husbands/wives - sometimes this is a great sacrifice but they just want to provide a better future tu themselves. |

I'm from the US, and I've been to both Great Britain and Poland. Those of you from Great Britain who are saying that Poles are coming to GB because it is a nicer place to be aren't exactly right. Poles have a very nationalistic outlook when it comes to their country, so the majority of them probably are there to work for a few months or so to make money to take back home with them because they can't get a job in Poland. Unemployment is running rampant there, but the Poles working in your country want to go home, believe me. |

I am British(of the Scottish branch) and have worked and travelled all over Europe since I was 20. I am now 40 and have seen so many changes in the 'working abroad' culture. I worked for fun in Greece to start off with and didn't really want to go back home when the summer season finished so went off to sunnier climes for the winter. We all worked for a pittance but we all had a certain goal- save ,travel, see more, meet new people with different cultures and generally broaden our horizons and outlook on life. We were cheap labour working in bars and restaurants, but really we did not care because we enjoyed the quality of life we were having. Most of us has the security of knowing that if things went sour in Europe we could hitch, beg parents and friends and we could come home(if things went wrong). Now Europe has opened up and we are all free to work basically where we want, when we want- it has taken a lot of fun out of it! On a more serious note who in there right mind when they had the choice, would stay in the UK if they knew that they could get double, maybe quadruple the earnings if they went to work in Poland??? It's a free multicultural society we live in now...ENJOY.Learn from our European cousins instead of thinking WOW we should go to such and such a place because it is so cheap to holiday there, think of why it is so cheap and the hardship and poverty those people endure.Luv and Hugs to who are all trying to make an (honest)living in our great country:-) |

I don't think Poles want to live or settle for good in the UK. It is true your country enjoys a good economy but by no means it is Shangri-la.
I think you have more Hindu, Pakistani and the entire middle east coming to you to stay (for good!) and then eventually will refuse to integrate into society once they become residents. And check your census...they reproduce like rabbits! Have you heard of Londonistan?
You should welcome more your European cousins rather than reject them. |

Because Uk ppl are to stupid to get a job and do some of them so Polish people come and do them and leave. But in reality is just a plan to take UK over because it's such a weak country and it relies on the yanks for help. |

I cant believe how ignorant most of you are. Are you seriously telling me that if you came from a country that didn’t pay as well and had the opportunity to work somewhere where you could earn more money you wouldn’t do it as I find it very hard to believe that most of you wouldn’t jump at the opportunity! |

They are a pain in the neck, they contribute very little to the economy and what's more there's more on the way. This country is becoming the dustbin for eastern europe. Go to Australia instead ( that's if you can get in ) |
