Why are there so many Turkey bashers on this site?

Every time someone asks an innocent question about Turkey some ignorant twat responds with a blanket denigration. If you have an opinion, please justify it. Ignorance is no excuse.

Those of us who have knowledge and experience of this country know that the bashers are wrong. So stand up and be counted!

I must admit, I haven't come across the Turkey bashers but if you're wanting people to get together in defence of Turkey then count me in. I haven't been there for a long time but I have many happy memories of my time spent in Turkey. I spent most of my time in Kusadasi near Izmir which is a beautiful, fun resort full of fantastic friendly people which became a home from home for me. I have also been to Izmir, Istanbul, and Aydin. One time I journeyed across Turkey with a friend to a small village near Van. We travelled for 26 hours by coach to get there and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Turkey has some magnificent scenery and the country is steeped in history. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending a visit to anyone and I hope to go back myself one day. I am quite new to Yahoo answers but anyone joining soon finds that there are many ignorant members who post answers without giving a second thought to what they are saying and without any knowledge of the subject, they just want the points. It's unfortunate that these people spoil it for others, don't give them the power to though. Stupid answers can be really frustrating but those of us who care just have to rise above it and enjoy the intelligent debate that many of the genuine questions and answers stimulate.

I am looking forward to visiting Turkiye next year !

I will be staying in Izmir, and hopefully visiting Istanbul and other places !

I look forward to seeing this beautiful country

Turkey doesn't have an Islamic government. The government has nothing to do with the Islamic religion. It is a secular government.

And, bash Turks? Really? They are my favorite people-the men, partic.

I don't think there are so many Turkey bashers on this site. Personally I have visited Turkey (Istanbul) and thought it was a pretty cool place. The people we met and places we saw all were terrific. Sure, the country has its problems, but find me one that doesn't.

expatturk
People often answers questions out of ignorance rather than out of knowledge. Often a little research, or as you say, personal experience, would have resulted in a different opinion. It also may happen that someone had a bad experience; but that can happen anywhere, not just in Turkey. One denigrator reported being robbed here, but then I was robbed and worse in California; that, however, does not put me off California at all. In fact, on my next trip to America, I may be visiting LA -- which to me is a sort of scary place.

But getting cranky at the "Turkey bashers" isn't going to change their minds. We "Turkey lovers" can just continue saying nice things about the country and its people and giving good advice about safety and travel.

*standing up to be counted* I am back off to Turkey on Friday for the second time this year and I for one think it's a fantastic country. The mindless complaints the 'bashers' have to make are hardly unique to Turkey. believe it or not people get thing stolen in England too. We also have shoddy hotels, but you get what you pay for.And as for 'crimes against mankind'...god what country hasn't been guilty of this at some point? The difference is, unlike some of it's neighbouring countries, Turkey is moving in the right direction.

I think it is general about any country that isn't "functioning" in the global economy - not just Turkey but all the middle east "gap" countries. People in the west have unknowingly been conditioned by ideals fed to them by their controlled media to be against any country that does not have a puppet government in it, which will bow down and kiss the multinational corporations and invite them to come and exploit their peoples and resources. There is no one on this planet quite like the willing slaves of the west when it comes to obediently serving their masters wishes...

I'm not sure why people would have a go a Turkey, I have been 5 times to different resorts and have nothing but praise and happy memories. Although the Turkish people are mainly muslim, in the tourist areas they are very westernised. Turkey itself is very pretty and like every other country in the world has places to avoid (Marmaris) but if you travel to smaller resorts such as Olu Deniz, Kas or Kalkan you will see the real Turkey!

Why is it that every time someone criticizes Turkey, or simply mentions one of its numerous crimes against mankind people like you consider it Turkey bashing? As you said, ignorance is no excuse so stop defending a country that does not deserve it.

That sounds like a threat. Because of this mentality you will never accepted in europe. You have to respect the opinions of others, that's democracy.
