Why are turkish people hating the french? |
We planned to go to turkey. When online we find that many turks express dislike of the french. We don't understand why, as we live in australia and are not political. I am greek descent and my partner is French. Is it safe for us to visit turkey? as we love the people and the culture. We are reconsidering our plans. Are we doing the wise thing? |

I think you should at first ask the reverse question :
Ask the French people : " Why do you hate Turkish people?"
French people don't know us very much, and have many prejudices about us...
For example, in general they think we are arabic people ( because we are Muslims too)
Another point : many of French people believe all the bad things that Armenian people, who are an important community in France, tell about us ( for example, "dirty"," cruel","terrorist","genocide",etc...)...
And French people always think that the Turks can only work in kebab restaurants, construction industry,etc...
They think we are third-world country...
And, as you know, French people are very famous worldwide about their ARROGANCE... |

It's because the Turks know the French don't like them, and actually there is a pressure from armenian community in France.
What a pity... |

My experience has been Turks are some of the most hospitable people in the world, as individuals. I regard Turkey as being as safe as anywhere else, only universal cautions required. Maybe they don't like the traditional French arrogance? |

I find French people rather lovely actually, I work with one of them and him and his wife are two of my favorite people, also know a couple of more really great people, I can't care less about politics, you will be treated well in Turkey, you always get a couple of idiots anywhere in the world hope you won't bump into one of them and have a lovely time... |

We don't hate from French people, just we have a hatred for French politica. You know because of (sözde) Armenia genocide law..
So of corz Turkey is %100 safe for ur partner. I can give an example for this too: In the summers there are some French people near our summerhouse and some of our male friends make basketball matches with them ;-) |

Well here are 2 main reasons :
- most of the French are against Turkey enters the European Union.
- France's parliment recognized last year the Armenian's genocide. And Turkey doesn't recognize it. So a big political issue here. |

well, Turkey is the third country in Europa where tourists mostly visit. Tourism is one of the most important thing and people in Turkey always wants to welcome you in Turkey. Therefore, they do not even think or ask whereever from you are, tell them you're french or you're armenian, that doesnt matter; you are going to see that they're very hospitable people. Recently, Turks were against only the politicians, whose purposes are to have more armenian votes in france, claiming a nonsense thing that is so-called armenian genocide. But one of ur question is really mistakefull; you wrote; "is it safe to visit turkey" i even dont give any answer to this question...
reconsidering ur plans will be another mistake; u probably will miss a big chance. let me tell u what will u have if u visit turkey;
- seeing the people with the fame of hospitality,
- seeing the unique and most beautiful places in the world,
- a holiday cheaper than any other similar countries in the world
- delicious and fresh meals of one of the best kitchens in the world
so, what do u want anymore and what are u waiting for? |

Dear friend,
I am Colombian, and I live in Paris...
I know France quite well, and I have some Turkish friends...
I can tell you that French are very arrogant with everyone, so I suppose Turks refuse to accept such an attitude...
Myself, I've been victim of prejudices, you know ( drugs, etc...) . I'm really bored...
French should take a look at themselves before judging other people... |

It's not that we don't like the French, we just don't like the policy of France. I live in a touristic town and we have tourists from all around the world visiting, and none of them have problems. I can say that Turkey is safe for tourists. I wouldn't say the same thing for politicians though :)) just kidding. Anyway.. My advice would be (if you still have doubts about visiting Turkey) to go on holiday through a travel agency who has experience about Turkey, and who can give you the best alternative on a good city/town and hotel. It's not just sea, sun and fun, Turkey is full of historical sites and cultural events. Hope you have a nice holiday! :) |

In any case the hostility towards the Turkish in France is much higher than any negative feelings for the French in Turkey. |

You're not doing the wise thing. Turks are one of the most hospitable people in the world. They do anything to make their guests comfortable. Even if their enemy visits their home, they accept them as guests and treat them well. And tourists are seen like guests here.
Plus, I think this hate is more about the politics rather than the people. Yes, I don't like French politics either, this doesn't make me a French hater, or this doesn't make me kill French who visit my country.
And, please take no offense but not only Turks but lots of people from other countries find French snobbish and pretentious. Just the other day, an American told me "You're a pretentious Turk, just like French".
And, I so agree with Melisa on this one. Please, look at how Middle-Easterners and Africans are treated in France. Wasn't there a social revolt just last year? I don't think I will be hated when I go to France though. And I wouldn't call all the French people Turk haters just because "some French" treated me bad. |
