it's the fault of Bulent Ecevit
He should have sent the armies all the way to the south until Limassol
..to clean away the island and settle the score for good
but he was too romantic of a man, too naive..
he thought the greek cypriots learned their lesson and that they'd 'behave' like normal & civilised people from then on..
HE WAS WRONG of course..
No justice will be restored in Cyprus until all EOKA members are jailed and be punished for the innocent Turkish they massacred between 1960 and 1974 |

Because they thought half of the island would suffice to teach a lesson to Greeks who murdered thousands of people during their war of independence in Peloponnisos, who sent the Greek army to invade Anatolia, then yet again, murdered thousands there, then went on killing Turks in Cyprus and who today, violently oppresses and denies the rights of minorities in their country and who allows PKK suicide bombers to be trained on its soil, not to mention the financial and moral support they give to this terrorist organization (and God knows what else). |

There supposed to be a united republic according to Zurich and London treaty. Greek side didn't stomach it. They tried to take over. International law gives Turkey the right to intervene. Turkish army stopped a genocide there. It wasn't an occupation. |

Because the aim wasnot to take the whole island. The aim was to create a safe zone for Turkish Cypriots.
USA objected to the intervention, too, and made lots of threats. If Ecevit listened, we wouldn't be talking about a Turkish Cypriot community now. |

well they were only really there to protect the Turkish Cypriot minority from an Athens-based coup to reunite cyprus with greece. many turkish cypriot were being mistreated and massacred so turkey had to intervene. Turkey didn't invade to colonise cyprus, they did it to protect the turks living there, there is a Greek majority in Cyprus anyway so there was no need to invade it all. and no, they didn't do this because of fear of war between turkey and greece, Greece's army is microscopic compared to turkey, turkey would have no trouble invading greece. Turkey were only interested in providing a safe zone for turkish cypriots. |

Turks are not killers and invaders, that's why. They took their part and protected Turkish Cypriots from ethnic cleansing done by Greeks. If they didn't do that, Cyprus would be a part of Greece now and no Turk would stay alive. Yes, Turkey probably could have taken the whole Cyprus, because they are much stronger than Greeks; but if they did that, then they would be the same as Greeks. That's not what they do. |

Zoi, must be the kind of Greek who's just blaming the Americans for everything. What a bunch of nonsense in her answer. |

I think Greece would have had something to say about it. |

At first I didn't know if I should answer your question seriously or not...
Well, if it was a descent question, I would surely answer this way:
' They don't colonize the whole island, because USA just want them to make a mess in Cyprus, this way they (US) can blackmail Greece, Cyprus and have Turkey also 'in their hand'! They don't do it also, because though Greece is not even the 1/7 of Turkey, they don't want to cause a war.
US has to sell their guns and make a favor to the Turks for what they are going to ask from them. It is not that I'm that smart, Turkey KNOWS that they have the support of the US and agrees with US for those kind of invasions. For Cyprus, Turks had agreed with US and with UK too, as diplomatic documents reveal.
Well, if you want to show the world your military ability or Greeks to recognize it, we can also bow to your excellency.
HAPPY NOW?
@Mark: Why Mark? Do you have any doubts that they rule the world or that they control more of the wars in our planet?
What about the financial crisis of our times then, what about the oil prices and what is their relation to the American Wars in Iraq and elsewhere?
This is what I believe, it's your problem that you don't accept it. I have reasonable arguments for my opinion, what do you have?
You don't make arguments for or against it. |

Cos there were a load of England fans on holiday and the Turks came to an abrupt halt when they seen them in the bar waiting for them. Then they banned them from England matches in Turkey cos they were so frightened!!!! |
