Why do Armenians think they are European?

I agree 100% with Nikitas. I also agree, surprisingly, with Danny Boy too.
It is so sad for him that he trys to resemble you and your friends, this will certainly won't make him more European. There isn't any kind of 'charta'/map that will identify what exactly is European. Being or considered 'European' doesn't bring necessarily happiness and balance in one's life.

I guess that's because many Armenians that live in Europe and USA come from Turkey. I can tell the origin of many looking at their surnames.

I can't see any connection with the European identity and Armenia, historically. Armenia was under various influences, like Persian, Ottoman and Russian, but not European.

Armenians don't look like Jews, they look like Armenians. One is a Sami race, the other a Caucasian (as a place name) race. And no, not all Caucasians are blond with light colour eyes.

Also, I don't know what a white power music is, but it doesn't sound nice to me.

Edit: After reading Momo's answer, I also wonder why being European should be considered as the ultimate good thing and being from elsewhere should be considered not. Like many other cultures, Europe has had its share of bad moments in addition to good ones. Armenians need not be European to be proud of their culture.

Even Algeria has had more european influence (occupied by France during 132 years, just after the Ottomans lost to the French) than Armenia,
Algeria is much closer to Europe than Armenia
There are more than 1 million Algerians in France, not to mention the 2 million French of Algerian decent, while Armenian-French community is only 500 000.

And Armenians, you think you are European "just" because you are Christian?
Don't forget that Christianity comes from the Middle-East...Therefore your "religion" argument is not valid.

Turks are not really Europeans ( they are multi-continental,and multi-cultural), but they are definitely more European than Algerians and Armenians...

As for the question,well personally Armenia is just about as European as Turkey is.Being Christian does not make you European,so you can cross that off your list.

But it is funny to see people say Turkey isnt European because most of its land is in Asia minor,well how about ALL of Armenia,even historic Armenia isnt close to the Europe or in Europe atall? Its in the East,clearly.

If Turks are considered as non-Europeans because they have Central Asian roots, then the same goes for Armenians because they have Indian roots (like Iranians/Persians too).

Armenia is now a part of Europe along with many other countries that I personally would not have thought were. Since the EEC was formed (originally 7 countries) it has grown to around 30 countries now by allowing others to join. Europe now has the one currency of the Euro except for a couple of countries including Great Britain. I think the reason the British government doesn't want the Euro is because obviously the Euro is the Euro in every European country and if our currency was the same when we travelled abroad we would realise just how much we Britons are getting ripped off by high prices and taxes.Example if a pair of Levi jeans was 50 Euros abroad and 70 Euros here we would spot the rip off . The European Parliament should come clean and rename us as The United States of Europe which is what we have become. At least as big as the USA if not bigger. The one good thing that comes out of it is there will never be a war in Europe like the 1st and 2nd world wars. Let your Armenian school friend join in. Don't leave him out in the cold, he is a human being with feelings and needs friends. Don't be racist, he's not or he would not want to join in with your activities .

Armenians are christian, and their race is called "indo european",,, and Iranians are muslims, but they are called "indo european" too, because the ancient Armenians and ancient persians (Iranians) were the first fathers of Europeans

Turks come from Cebtral Asia, near to MONGOLIA... and their language is similar to the language of the other Central Asia (Turkic languages), and have some words in common with the Mongolian language

They are much more Europeans than the Turks. That's for sure. The European identity is based on the civilization and the historical course of a nation. You may don't like that as a Turk. You may come up with stupid theories like they are eastern than Turkey or they are darker than you but you can't change history and the Armenian contribution to the European culture like you can't deny the expansion of Islamic and non European culture in Anatolia and because of the Turks and the Arabs.

They could join Eurovision and sport events:) Its so funny Turkey is European country and Armenia is not even close to Europe. They feel more European from Turkey. We are just laughing to them. Armenians are so funny:)))
