Thank you so very very much for your question :) |

I think Hitler had the same idea - making all of europe part of germany. |

(YOU KNOW I AM RIGHT), I know you are wrong!!!, I am a white Britain, and I'll gamble with you, even today, the Dutch, and the Danes would not want to give up their identity, and they would not want to be under the German banner, you are talking out of your orifice, |

How dare you. The Netherlands has an entirely different language, culture, political system (we were with the Allies in WW2 and were occupied by Germany) and that is the only time in over 2000 years when anyone has attempted to merge the two. Happy to be part of the EU, but we have more in common with the Flemish part of Belgium than with Germany. How ignorant you are |

I think you're just a wind up merchant and I'm really surprised so many people fall for your ploys. |

Crispy is a troll who's visited this section of Y!Answers before, but he was less funny then... This one cracked me up, especially some of the answers...
I don't want to encourage trolling but I wouldn't mind seeing the reactions in the Germany-section if someone asked the opposite there... |

You know it doesn't make sense, or you don't know a lot about European culture and history.
The Netherlands and Germany have no common history since the Roman times. Therefore they are too different. The Dutch wouldn't be happy being a province of Germany. Putting those two countries together would be the same as making Utah part of California. The people in Utah are very different from thos in Cal. They want different (political) things. If you would put them in the much powerful state of California, none of their political wishes would be granted, making them very unhappy. So although your proposal is meant to make people happy, the opposite effect would be reached.
It would make more sense to make Belgium and the Netherlands one country, at least they have been together at the end of the middle ages and in the beginning of the 19th century. But event that is out of the question, since we have grown apart.
You should first ask yourself: what is the benefit of making one country? No war? Over the last centuries a lot of bigger countries had civil wars. If people don't want to be together in one country why force them to? |

I see your point, but...
They have their own culture. They're Dutch people, they speak Dutch and they live in their country the Netherlands. Just as Danish people speak Danish and live in Denmark, their own country. You can't just throw that all away |

What cloud are you on? Do you want to start another war? |

What are you talking about?
Are you out of your mind? The Netherlands will always be an independent country.!!!
You think you have the easy solutions, so why not have one big america instead of 50 seperate states? That makes more sense, you know I am right, duh?
Hands off my Holland. |

I think, judging by your picture, that you need to stop sitting down and get up and get moving. Much better for you than doing any ****-stirring in here! |

And let people just barch into the country like its nothing?
Overcrowd the country more by the second?
I dont think and want so!!
I am proud of this country. Why can one not leave it like it is? |

The Dutch are not entirely Germanic. The Danes are Scandinavian. The Belgians are Flemish. The Irish are Celts. Netherlands exists as its boundaries evolved after various conflicts and wars as were the boundaries of all sovereign nations. The current tendency- European Union- will slowly eliminate the national boundaries altogether.
If you study your history, you will discover that the notion of national sovereignty is relatively new, about the Renaissance, and "countries" formed themselves around language and customs. Now we are in the process of returning to what used to be, hence your proposal lacks any real value. |

I just love this question from crispy...but what is even better is the fact that so many people reacted to it...this is a wind up and a good one at that .. Ireland becomes part of UK!!! lol it took them hundreds of years to get the English out ..so that's a no go . |

Why not make the whole world one country? We can attach all the boats to America and Australia and the other countries and tow them together so we have one great big land mass!
Together, we can make it a better place, for you and for me and the entire human race. What says you Michael Jackson |

obviously you weren't paying attention in school and you probebly have something wrong with your head to come up with something so stupid, but than again, you knew that already, you are just out to see what kind of reactions you would get for comming up with such a lame idea, holland and germany, yeah right, holland and belgium would be more likely since we ones were together way way back,
go see a doctor and check yourself please
but you sure got a big sturr going on with this one, guess that's all you wanted to get out of this. |

Why doesnt the rest of Europe just become Irish? its the best country |

I totally agree with you.. The only think it is good for is the pot..(if you like that sort of stuff) other than that.... I think it should be part of Germany. Plus, you never hear anything good about the country. Is there anything good about it? seriously? |
|

WonderingMind
|
Too many differences between those countries to match them
If you think about Belgium for example, this country has two identities, 2 parts ... a French one and a German one, they speak two different language in this country but even ...
The french speaking part will never be part of France and the German speakin part will never part of Germany
Same for Denmark, that will never be a part of Germany ...
Their language are similar but they are not the same in their culture ...
and for Eire that would be a part of UK forget it |

WTF? Bloody troll!
Your proposal makes no sense. I like to be a European citizen, but only if my national identity is equally represented with the others in the EU. I have no desire to see it muddled by some stupid crackpot mergers. It will only lead to trouble if you try to force unification in the EU this way. |
