Every country exports its misery when speaking of immigration. So I guess one should avoid mixing up immigrants (from any nation) with the inhabitants of that nation. In Germany as well as in the Netherlands, most of the Turkish immigrants originate from the eastern poorer front of the country and many are of Kurdish origin (my experience). Even more, most Turkish people are getting confused with the Moroccans because of their religion.

My experience is that Turkish immigrants are very hard working people. They leave peaceful lives. In spite of that, many have been often the victims of wild racist attacks in Germany.

The hatred stems (where present) from striking differences in religion and culture. Those differences were causal to many bloody wars between Turkey and a number of European nations for the last 1000 years. The great majority of these differences still remain there today.

Hi I'm British so I suppose I am classed as European. I am married to a Turkish man and I find the Turkish people very warm and friendly. I have never had a problem with any 'race' of people. I think a lot of people hate what they don't know and you always hear about the bad before the good. Us Brits also stereotype a lot of the Europeans, but if you can see through that you find nice people.

son of tamilnadu india
every country peoles hates people from other country coming to their country and take their jobs

I'm Macedonian!!!
where did you get that imperssion? You can not generalize stuff like this.. People are different and some of them may have some prejudices, don't know. I can only speak for myself and i can tell you, i really like Tukish ppl cuz they are nice, friendly and hospitable..

warm regards from Macedonia

Well, there's always going to be people who just don't like foreigners and that even includes Turks. Then, there are Europeans who love Turks and accept any foreigner into their country. It's a bit sad though, because whenever it comes to Turkey welcoming a stranger into their country, they're so kind. It's a shame some people can't uphold the same respect.

?
This is news to me. While I lived in Turkiye (proper spelling), most of the tourists in Mersin and elsewhere were German.

Myself being a Jewish American lived in Adana for a 1-1/2 years and never had a problem as I was treated with the utmost respect.

Maybe the question should be: why do so many Europeans (and the rest of the world) hate Parisians?

Generalizations, generalizations...
Actually I believe this question needs to be asked to those biased, prejudiced and/or nationalistic/fascist Europeans, who consider themselves so humane and so civilized.
Turks were just adored by Europeans, especially the Germans when they went to do all the dirty work, like digging up coal underground and cleaning the streets and toilets. Now that they are working in better and different jobs, the Europeans are afraid that they are losing job opportunities.

Mehmet K
This is not only for Turks but for all nations...
Such as a German does not like a French as he/she likes an Austrian.

It should be known that, generally Turks living in European countries did not properly represent Turkey unfortunately especially up to 1990s because of their lover education level. This is caused mainly by Germany with requesting uneducated people as workers in 1960s from Turkey.

In the soon future I believe people will understand each other better than in the past.

i am british. so i am a european. and i love Turkey.
i am going to live there asap.
after the first time i went i wanted to learn more about the culture and language.
i also have a turkish boyfriend.
also, a lot of europeans, belgians, germans, britons, holiday in Turkey. but i do understand what you mean. I think it may be about Turkey and the EU. because Turkey is Eurasian. i dont see why this would be a problem. but i would prefer if Turkey didnt join the EU and use Euros. because ilike Turkey as it is. and i think if it joined the EU it would change.
hope i helped :)

genç türk
You start with a wrong hypothesis about every european hating the turks. It is not true. Yes, we might have invaded their countries but their sentiment toward us is not hate, it is fear. Our image is not so good basically because:
1) Invasions
2) Guest workers who come directly from villages
3) Kurds with turkish passports murdering their daughters/sisters/wives

Selena
Those are all ignorant people with no education and no moral!
They regard Turks and Greeks as the modern day slaves! Disgusting attitude, no respect for other cultures! Shame on them all! And then have the nerve to label EU as tolerant!

kulla
I dont know and dont care.Maybe they are jealous of us.

My grand-parents didn't like the Italians, because the were poor, uneducated, and they came in northern european countries for the dirty jobs.
My parents had italian friends, but they didn't like the muslims immigrants because they were poor, uneducated and so on ...
But now, in Belgium, the president of the Labour Party is an Italian. The Turks have the right to vote for the municipal elections, and in some towns people who have both nationalities (Belgian +turkish) have been elected.
Most Turks who live here, or in Germany, France, and so on are honnest people with whom we'll never have any problem. I think that old people are still afraid, but the young ones can understand our cultural differences, just as we did with the Italians.
So i'm sure that in a few years these problems will be over.

denyocan
simply because they are Muslims. The same reason why they hated the Jews for centuries and genocided them. why? cause they were not christians. They are welcomed like kings and queens when they visit Turkey, but when Turks go to their countries, they are treated like dogs. I can`t even describe how It hurts to get questioned for minutes in an airport just because you have a Turkish passport while the other passengers are boarding. THE MORE I THINK OF IT, THE MORE I HATE EUROPE and its fascistic racism.

I try to be objective.

Turkish workers went to European countries at 1960's. And most of (%95) these people was un educated and they haven't seen any place without their villages.
There must be a big culture shock. A small village to Berlin. Different language and rules of big foreign city.

It looks like taking out a small fish to it's aquarium and put it in an ocean :)

Europeans don't like Turks is a hard sentence. The Turks are at Europe is behaving not a Turk and not an European. This is mixture of culture. If Europeans want to see good part of this culture you will love them , if you see the other part you hate them.

But Europeans especially Germans must not forget that , after WW ' 2 they lost their generations to build up the countries.
These fishes cleaned that ocean and helped to build up Europe again.

Germans don't like any other foreighers from poor countries. However once i saw a turkish man walking alone and after him his woman carring two big cases and a little baby. Seeing something like this i shouldn't have a good opinion about turkish people especially men. But i like turkish people anyway.

This indeed is a multifaceted question and cannot be adequately examined in short sentences. The symptom is NOT with the Turkish people alone. It occurs with virtually all ethnicities that migrate to a different land for economic reasons. Currently, there is a very similar situation in the US with Mexican and Central-South American immigrants generally called Hispanics.
Economic refugees and immigrants are usually from the lower societal strata, insecure, uneducated and do not know the language of the host country. So they tend to live in enclaves of peoples with the same background.
The "locals" are apprehensive of a new culture moving in and hence feel threatened. This fear is exacerbated by the occasional crimes committed by the newcomers.
The blending of cultures is a very difficult matter and it has not been resolved in a compassionate way as yet anywhere.

Leonarda
first of all liking and desliking doesnt concern nationality...
Be sure that if we take the case of europeans they deslike each other also..I give you an example:Nothern italians hate southern...
So, i dont believe that it has to do absolutely with nationality, greeks are also not liked in some countries, and so what?others dont like spanish, others english....
If there is something called prejudice, sometimes it is related to politic situations, but not to human beings...
So, i can assure you becasue i travel so much abroad, that what you say is valid for every nation,it has nothing to do with turks, greeks, french etc in particular

Kim D
I do like them

The culture of respect of others is a new concept in Europe.Look at the European history :countless wars between Europeans ...
It is only since the last world war that Europe is in peace.
They had so much hate for each other...
So the reason is not being Turkish but be being different.
And Turks are very proud people (with good reason)they take it too personally.
But I observed also a kind of admiration and jealousy about Turks because they are so supportif of each other(come to gether to built the House of each other for free like in France)
Turks are in Europe economically well integrated but culturally not because they think they are better and this hurts the sensibility of Europeans like Germans .

ErAs
why do Europeans have to like Turkey, Turkish people?

or

why does Turkish people have to like Europa, Europeans?

orr

who doesnt?

this doesnt work by liking or not; and what you discevered is simply subjective; i dont like ignorant people, too...

Asherah supports Geert Wilders
that is quite a racist statement to claim that all Europeans don't like Turks. From what I hear and read, most Europeans who visit Turkey have a very positive impression of Turks, since they are so friendly and hospitable, but most of the Turkish immigrants living in Europe are not at all like the Turks living in Turkey. You could as well ask the opposite question and if you want to generalise anyway, ask why all Turkish immigrants in Europe misbehave and disrespect the country and it's people they live in?
It's not because they are poor that they have the right to disrespect others and abuse the system.

In short, Turks in Germany and the rest of Europe are not to be compared with the real Turks living in Turkey and Europeans likes and dislikes towards certain Turks has usually nothing to do with them being Turkish, since Europeans in general are the least racist and nationalistic people in the world.

this is news to me, all i have ever heard from the british is how much they love turkey and the people and i have to agree. After hearing so much our self we decided to have our holiday there. we visited olu deniz and i have to say i now adore turkey and it was the turkish people that made our holiday with their warmth and friendliness.

<3
1. I never had a problem in any country because I'm Turkish. Maybe we shouldn't think they are racist when someone doesn't like us.

2. I will not going to generalize of course but if you go to a European country and meet a few Turkish people you'll see that SOME of them just like some other immigrants from another countries do not try to fit in the country they live. They refuse to learn the language, they criticize natives... it must be disturbing for other people, I guess.

3. There are ignorant people in every country. Sometimes people meet a few bad Turkish people and label all of us.

Simply because there better looking, mainly because there Muslim

Trisha
Because most of them go there and have lots of kids so they can get "Kindergeld", which is money you get from the government when you have a child. The more children, the more money you get. But many of the children don't often go to school, so they are uneducated. Also, many Turks don't integrate into the German community and still live in their own ways, and few learn German. Many of them aren't official citizens and they take away jobs for the natives.

I'm not saying it is wrong for Turks to want a better life, but it can be unfair for the Europeans as well. And not all Turkish people are like this.

araks g
i love turkey, i eat it on every thanksgiving.
