`but I don't know why they don't have beard like arab muslims`
Because Turks are not Arabs. It might be an Arabic tradition as there is no rule in Islam that tells you you should have a beard. I guess it doesn't make a man less muslim when he doesn't have a beard.
Excuse my bluntness, but I find it extremely annoying when Arabic people expect Turks to live like wahhabis or whatever. And it's again extremely annoying to judge someone's religion based on how they look.
We have our own traditions and culture and we prefer to live the way we choose in our country, not what Arabic world expects from us. |

Well i am Turkish and have a beard most of the time. But i'm amazed that poeple can measure faith with the length of facial hair.
If you look around you will see that most christian and jewish monks have very long beards as well.I guess they are more muslim than a Turk without a beard. |

Some do. but they have a secular Government so Clerics don't tell them how to look or dress. Turkey might well border Iran but they are miles apart in when it comes Islamic pressure and oppression.
Its strange that you only noticed beards. Did you not noticed that women could also wear what they wanted ? its called freedom ! Ataturk influence. |

It may be a cultural thing.
For example I'm Catholic and when I meet Catholics from other countries like Ukraine they sometimes have slightly different religious customs. |

Because we are not Arabs. That s simple, take it.
@Smile: how can you be that sure i know my religion less than you do?What the hell??? Please be more knowledgable, Turkey is not full of people who believe people saying the Prophet Muhammed said this or that in order to shapen the social life. People here read the holly book, Qoran instead. |

the answer is hidden in your question: "they don't have beard like arab muslims"....
Because we are no Arab. We are Turks. Yes most of us share the same religion with Arabs but we have a our own culture and lifestyles. |

I would naturally assume
the beard thing would be disregarded
since the invention of the electric
razor. How much you want to bet that
if there were electric razors at the
time Muslim by-laws were being
created, that wouldn't of never
been one. |

'The Saudi legal system prescribes capital punishment or corporal punishment, including amputations of hands and feet for certain crimes such as murder, robbery, rape, drug smuggling, homosexual activity, and adultery. The courts may impose less severe punishments, such as floggings, for less serious crimes against public morality such as drunkenness'
For the past 60 years Turks have been progressing step by step to take thier place alongside the civilised nations of the world. We want to be part of a modern safe community. Its been far from perfect, with human rights violations and bad treatment of kurds, but year by year it gets better for us.
Compared to Arab countries Turkey is Disney World.
My fellow Turks...Do not pay any attention to any Arab when he tries to judge you on anything,be it religion, culture, government. We are miles ahead of these people in almost every sector of life.Read the qoute i put at the start again, this is a wake up call to why we should and always move forward with the modern world and not backward with the Islamic world. |

it is not about the religion. it's about modernization. |

Well, why do Arab men grow beards? And in that sweltering heat, too?
Tsk tsk. I'm not saying Arabs are dirty, but it must be really hard to keep cool under that growth.
PLEASE leave Muslims of other cultures alone. Else, you may be subjected to the same slurs that you perform.
And an open minded and tolerant prophet who gave women more rights than before wouldn't really mess with people's beards, wouldn't you think? |

It's because we are a country who dont want religion to be shown all over the place. We do not support people having beards and women having hijabs. We turks prefer our country to be moderate and modern and do not support religious symbols, only in your own house you can do whatever you want.
If you read more about ataturk you'll fine out about more.
However, if you go towards the Iran'i and the Iraqi border, you may see more villages with men who have beards like the ones you describe |

I'm guessing Turks are more modern, but that doesn't mean they aren't good Muslims. All the Turkish women I know cover up... |

First of all, there is nothing called wahabis, the term wahhabi is a slur
Second, having a beard has nothing to do with Arabs, people who have beards in Pakistan for example are more than in many Arab countries. Its an ISLAMIC teaching. The prophet (sas) said: "Keep the beards and cut the moustaches short" .. As for your question, most of the turks today are not religious people, the percentage of practicing Muslims is less than 20% .. Also most of them are so ignorant about their religion (as you can see from the answers) .. this is a result of 85 years of secularization, anti-Islamic policies and brainwashing. I hope Turkey returns to Islam soon |
