I'm Macedonian!!!

Why don't you guys want our help?!!!!?

I really can't understand this: our government (Republic of Macedonia) offered you some help with those fires and you guys refused our offer. Why? Just because we have some name issues? WHAT'S WRONG WITH BEING A GOOD NEIGHBOUR?!

regards and i really hope you solve your problem with the fires, with or with us...
Additional Details
And yeah... it happened!!! It might be no big deal, but as GONE said: "Macedonia offered to Greece three fire-cars with crew of twenty firemen, they waited on the Greek border 24 hours, but Greek government didn't let them enter!"

And why do you mix these good intentions with mercy?! And we too have problems with fires, you know...

If not ours, why didn't you accepted turkish help, since their, as hurricane said, fire department is 5 times larger than Greece's? Why are you so proud, even in need, or it's better for you guys to loose people and forrests instead of accept someones help?! Doesn't make sence...

and once again I wish you all the best

I don't know why that happened.
About Turkey, i know that they send a Canadair airplane.
The common people, who are in danger, they would not refuse any help. I don't know why our government did that.

About FYROM, i didn't know that they offered to us some help.
Also, at the time in which our co-patriots were facing death , the last thing they were thinking was "the name issue" !

First of all we are humans, and we should help each other, because today is Greece tomorrow will be an other country !

I think it is rather the time to share their pain than be mad about their refusal of help.

Let us not get confused about things. As far as I know, Turkish fire fighters were too busy with more than 9 forest fires around Antalya, one near Bursa and one in Ankara. This happened the same day with fires in Greece. Today Turkey officially offered help and Greece said they would appreciate it. A Turkish fire fighter plane is on its way to Greece to help. I wish Turkey was able to send help right on the first day.
I remember 1995 June when we had the great forest fire on Five-finger Mountains in Cyprus. The TCypriot leader Denktas refused help from GCypriots. Klerides had many fire engines waiting ready at the Green Line, but they were not allowed to cross. The excuse Denktas gave at the time was that the drivers would "spy" on us. Today those GCs are driving around in the north and having picnics!!!
As for the Greek Army, I heard that Karamanlis did not ask for their help! Well he is the Prime Minister.
No more comments on this sensitive issue.
I am a Mediterranean and those are my forests burning (in Greece, Turkey, Spain etc.).

Sorry Ovcicka but I will have refer to Leonarda here:

Maria, your government asked for help from Turkey and they are getting it. Since you cant get newspapers let me give you a few links about this issue so you get updated.

http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/gundem/7164156.asp

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/1103AP_Greece_Fires_Aid.html

http://www9.gazetevatan.com/haberdetay.asp?tarih=27.08.2007&Newsid=134184&Categoryid=30

Two of the links are in Turkish but if you ask your Turkish friends, whey will translate it for you. You can also ask me too.

It basicly states that our fires are extinquisted today so we sent a tanker plane , also our Red Crescent informed Greek Red Cross that they are prepared and ready to send help and supplies on the first request.

More fire helicopters should be arrived on Greece by now sent from due to direct conversation between our Enviorement and Forest Minister and your Agriculture Minister.

Many more help will be there upon request but as you would appreciate trhe fact that we can't force you to receive them. It is diplomacy between two countries and Greece has to request and accept supplies man power etc and open the customs accordingly.

We are trying to help and now it is up to your government to do the necessary to accept it, or not.

there must be a misunderstanding here. no one can refuse help in a state of emergency.

WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET!!

PLEASE SEND NOW AS MANY PLANES & HELICOPTERS AS POSSIBLE!!

FORESTS AND VILLAGES ARE STILL ON FIRE!!!!

& PLEASE SEND AN EXPERIENCED COORDINATION TEAM FOR THIS KIND OF EMERGENCY! {Maybe from USA or Canada or whichever country has the best record} = I think that was 1 of the main reasons, along with the strong winds & the arsonists’ simultaneous attacks, causing the fast spreading of the Peloponnesus fires.

I am not really sure about your story my friend...I see help arriving from all over the world (17 countries) as soon as realising the extent of the fire {From Canada To Europe & our neighbours including your state & Turkey} Whoever offered helped we accepted it!!

I only know for some tracks from Turkey with food & clothing for the victims were refused entry just because we don’t need charity! We can feed & shelter the victims easily.

The politicians must also allocate now all of the election budgets to the victims & the quick reforestation of the whole region! Is an expensive thing to do you know.... {From Research & planning to resources allocation & implementation}

No election campaigns this time>..
All of them must go to the election day without spending 1 euro on ads-leaflets-visits-lobbying....

Otherwise people MUST NOT GO TO VOTE ANYBODY!!!

Totally Blunt
No, the most important question is, why didn't Greek army intervene from the first day on? It is their national army, after all!

In our country, the army is the first organized force in case of utmost emergencies, like an earthquake. And if there is a nearby garrison when a fire erupts, they are the first attend.

I am talking about hierarchy and organization. What you need in times of despair...

Why?

Update: trucks of the Turkish Red Crescent waited for Greek governments demand for help at the border for two days, then returned back today.

What do you mean ''we dont want it''?We havent been informed, and even if it was true, why you anounce it here? Why?To show that we are so selfish...?

There ISN'T ANY INFORMATION THAT GREECE REFUSED ANY HELP FROM ANYONE!!!!!
Correct said by Anlarm that Turkey was also in real trouble with fires and only today they managed to offer help. Their help was immediately accepted and NEVER REFUSED!!!!!
(As far as I know there was never an incident of refusal of entry for any Turkish red crescent!)
As for Slavic-Macedonia there was never any information of such an incident!!!!! From what I know GREECE DID NOT REFUSE ANY HELP! And Greece does not mix politics with national disaster!
If you have any information please provide it so that we can check and see if it has actually happened and why!
(I don't considered Gone-m(plav-a) as a credible source!!! so please provide a link which is creditable! I really want to read about it!!!)
Let me repeat that nothing and I mean nothing was heard of such a denial in Greece.
Further more today in the list of appreciation to foreign leaders who offer sympathy and help the name of the prime minister of
Slavic-Macedonia WAS mentioned!

UPDATE, UPDATE: the only information that actually exist is the article in the site that ovchinka provided
http://www.setimes.com/cocoon/setimes/xhtml/en_GB/newsbriefs/setimes/newsbriefs/2007/08/28/nb-01
No were else the same information has been duplicated!!!
But the answer is already in the text!
"Late in the afternoon, the foreign ministry (of FYROM)received an official letter from Athens in which the Greek government expressed its gratitude to all countries that helped battle the devastating fires. The letter added that for the time being, Greece needs no further help."
And that is the only reality!! No further help was needed it for firemen and fire engines. No political reason behind!
Greece already has express its gratitude.
Presenting though the above incident as an example of politics and hate is wrong!

MPONO
im sure why you asked this thing.we are in such a difficult situation.and you ask this to make people think that greeks are crazy and they deserve it?we are not crazy but you just dont have what we need.thanks for the help but you are not france nor germany to send 10 canadairs for example.
you gotta understand that we dont need fire-cars(theyare useless)..WE NEED CANADAIRS.turkey has big fires too and coz of the weather maybe they will have more.we cant accept help from somebody who is in danger too.i think thats the reason.we accept norway's help coz theres not any possibility for them to need canadairs.

Qu'est ce que tu pense?
I think the Greek government might have had a good reason for doing so. I don't know why exactly, but that's what I think. Maybe they didn't want to be too dependent on other nations?

NONAME
This is a question for politicians, I havent heard anything about your offer but even if its true there must be some reason dont you think? You would better ask that to your politicians too that have created the current situation between the relations of our countries.

Also to what Hurricane said, I have read in the newspapers that turkish media judged your government for not sending an immediate help to Greeks, while we were the first ones who sent an immediate help during the earthquake back in 1999. So be objective please.

oleg
I think, better to help

I know ! ! !
When there were fires in Bitola, the fire-department of Florina sent us help, so we thought that we should return the favor!
But you Greeks didn't let our fire-brigades even cross the border, not mentioning any help. In difficult times like this, you HAVE TO accept all the help you can get.
Because, unlike you, we don't wish something like this to happen, not even to our worst enemy ! ! !
I guess you realized you can use our help, and now you are accepting it!

That is a very good point! Greece made the same to Turkey! we offered them to help about the forest fires but they refused! Turkey is one of the nearest neighbours of Greece and Turkey's fire department is 5 times larger than Greece's but they just regret.

The result: Greece lost half of their forests! i think that was the biggest mistake that greek government made so far...

slaveof12gods
I went to the Caribbean 3 weeks ago - I was at a fancy restaurant - it was outside and when I sat and ordered my food I realized that there was an old man sitting on the street! ppl just walked by and said or did nothing! strangely I felt terribly wrong how I live (Don't know why I work very hard)the way I do ! so I ordered some extra Food and had the restaurant package it! I walked over to the old man who was ecstatic and almost in tears and I gave him a dinner and 10 bucks so he could have a drink! now you could say he was a beggar - but the whole time I was watching him he never said a word! you could say he probably was a drunk - when I came close he didn't smell of alcohol and it is not my place to judge!
SO TO THE ASKER OF THIS QUESTION AND OTHERS LIKE HIM/HER - IF YOU WANT TO HELP ANY ONE ,DON'T STAND AND WAIT TO BE ASKED , JUST DO IT -TO WAIT FOR A NATION UNDER FIRE TO ASK YOU FOR HELP IS ARROGANT AND INFLAMMATORY - YOU SHOW NOTHING MORE THEN YOU WANT THE NATION IN TROUBLE TO BEG TO YOU! THAT MAKES YOU PROBABLY MY LEAST FAVORITE KIND OF PERSON!

TRY THIS SOMETIME - YOU MIGHT FIND OUT HOW GOOD YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF AND THOSE YOU HAVE DONE GOOD FOR!

EDIT - I can see from your thumbs down that you obviously have no positive train of thought! you are even more pathetic c then I thought to begin with!

reifguy
my grandfather once told me a piece of advice...IF U WANT TO DO GOOD ,DO IT ,,DONT ASK ....i think a complemetary offer is different than a serious one,,becoz if aids come knocking on your door and u need it,,no one is gonna say go back ,,,its sweet politics ,,

I don't know what is problem, but this is my opinion: Greek politicians to cover own bad politic make imaginary enemy, that is Republic of Macedonia, how can be 2 million people be danger for 10 million people?!So, probably they cover from Greeks people that Macedonia want to help and this country is not enemy for Greece.
Dear Tolia, Europa for sure is Greek word, why you accepted help by some countries from Europe?

ziggy
Are you all insane? Look at what you are saying... There are people dead because of the fires and you found the time to make political judgment and whine because we did not accept some tracks (maybe), the same time that we were receiving help from anyone who could help...
Oh such great neighbors we have! We are blessed!!

Mpamia
WTF? Yesterday i saw on the news 8 airplanes from FYROM!! And you was helping us!! We didnt denied your help!

But still we got an excuse for not accepting (but im sure i saw it well..).
We're afraid that this attack is terrorism. And im sorry to say that but we got only 3 countries who got profit to attack us. FYROM - we all know why, Turkey (hmm hate? patriotism? for the tourism?) and Albania (But still dont believe this, cause in peloponissos we got many many albanians there working, they wouldnt want to lose their jobs). Maybe it's an extreme idea, but we still gotta protect our country - if it was a terrorist attack.

But as i said i saw FYROM's help on the news, heard that Turkey would love to help us, but we denied cause they already got their problems there (same goes for Italy and Spain). Never heard for a help from Albania (we didnt except one anyway to be honest...)

edited: Just read in our fireservice webpage that we just accepted 10 firemen and 2 cars from ALbania.

you people need to dig a lot more deeper to find the answer to this....research in Greek and Turkish history...if you have extra time try to connect Greece and Armenia together...its all about friendship

Sofy
I agree with you!

Leonarda
Ah...unfortunately in Greece tv and newspapers havent still arrived and we havent been informed about it....
Do you know something that we dont know?Or FYROM have so much help that it remains something for us the poor neighbours....?Thank you we are so grateful....
Are we serious?
And something else:We didnt ask help from anyone...
Who helped us they showed it...
Concerning my dear about your help, do you think that we wouldnt know it if it had happened?
Thank you so much for your mercy ...but we didint ask it...
Sorry for my answer if it offends some people, but it is not the right time to do comemnts who is good or bad neighbour...

Hurricane i will not comemnt your answer...

Ipek, i refered to Hurricane, and as you saw i didnt know, and i edited...I didnt accuse the whole turkish state...
