Why has You-Tube been banned from Turkey ?

It was banned in March 2007 by court order, as a response to videos insulting M. K. Ataturk, founder of modern Turkey. He's a highly revered figure in Turkey and it is illegal there to insult his memory in any way. See here:

However, Turkish internet users have by now figured out how to go around the ban using proxy servers, and YouTube remains one of the most visited sites in Turkey. Even the Turkish prime minister admitted recently that he watches clips on YouTube.

i'm from Turkey and i want to say something about you tube.You tube's closed since March 2008 because of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's bad videos and also Kurdish Terror Group which name is Pkk's videos. I think we're still living dark ages :(

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was insulted on youtube, and that is against the law in Turkey. Thus it was banned.

The Ataturk answer is correct. However, there are ways around it and everyone in Turkey knows what they are. Even government officials admit to accessing You Tube this way.

Might be because the truth will set them free and they don't want to be free.

Remember not every one thinks freedom is all it is cracked up to be. I mean look at how easily Bush was able to trick US out of our freedom with the promise of security through the "Patriot Act".

I knew that would bring thumbs down. I mean who really wants to admit how bad the Bush Administration suckered us all.

Don't take my word for it.
I would encourage all to read the "Patriot Act" including all revisions. And then decide for yourself if I am being factual.
