Why in Russia people hate and beat gays ? If I go to Moscow, will I be safe ?

Most people in Moscow, including my self are orthodox, and don't think that being gay should be accepted.
I understand that, but it is aginst my religion. I would never hurt a gay person, but I think that those people are not doing or practicing what was intended of them.

But how do whey calculate whether someone is a gay? I think, gays are much safer there, than people of another race. Anyway, serious things or battles almost never happen. They a really rare, like gas explosions or terrorist attacks or smth.

But I think it's true that tolerance towards gays is lower in Russia. Just another culture, another state of mind. Recent news about Dumbledore-gay proved it.

We have no gays,thats why we dont hate them....but in fact all countres which have gays become degradate....but anyway they are funy guys...but education of society says,we are russians,we have morals rule....we are not this degradated WEST....thats why....

As long as you keep it to yourself, nobody cares. But when gays decide to have a whole parade, (which means that traffic has to be stopped, the police have to protect them, etc.) that's when people get angry. So if you don't make out with your boyfriend on the street and don't hold hands, then you should be fine. Russian people have a more traditional attitude towards homosexuality (i.e. it's not acceptable), but rarely will you see a violent reaction, unless you provoke someone.
And it is quite ironic that you are gay, but still mention Jesus Christ...

Im russian Ive been there, and We dont hate gay people! Of course there will be some who will always dislike them. One of russia's fav singer is a gay singer from ukrain!!!!

um... some of the things that i see posted here are reticulous! First of all how could someone say that a gay cant say J.C (get over yourself) secondly, I am Russian and I am from Moscow and there are alot of gays there. Its a great city and you can have alot of fun... just dont hit on any str8 guys... :)

well we are in 2007 and is like that...included in u country is so dangerous there are a lot of skin head in Spain, Germany, France beaten and kill inmigrants and gays

I think you wont be safe, Russians have their own way of thinking, and there are groups of very intolerant people around, the are mostly xenophobic but wont spare a gay whooping if they have the chance, so if you are going there, act straight and don't go out alone ........ i know its sad, but there is a lot of intolerance in the world
