Why is Paris considered a romantic city?

I've been recently and its beautiful but i dont see the romantic side.
I found that Paris is mainy tourist attraction now, and has lost is charm.
I dont understand how such a busy city can still be considered a romantic retreat.
Maybe its just me... what do you think?

Either you think it is or you don't. It's a a vibe that Paris has, but you have to be open to it. Obviously it has its non-romantic "Tropic of Cancer" side too, not to mention its edgy "La Haine" side.
But I think if you live there for a few months, get to know the local neighborhood, shop in the local market, speak french, hang out in good cafes and bars, have french friends, go everywhere on foot, and have a bit of money because it is quite a pricey place, then it can be very romantic. I personally love it. I was there for 9 months and found it very romantic.
But so are other cities like London, Rome, San Francisco...
It also depends if you've got romance going on in your life...

Paris is considered a romantic city because the Parisiennes are so darned romantic themselves!

A case in point: I was in Paris with my new wife, and we asked our concierge to get us tickets to La Boheme, my wife's favorite opera. "Impossible," replied our concierge. We had waited until the last minute, so there were no tickets to be had.

All that changed, however, when we disclosed we were on our honeymoon. The concierge dug into her little black book, made some calls, . . . and voila! We had tickets for the next night . . . tenth-row center, thank you.

And on top of that, we got last-minute reservations at Taillevent in much the same way!

If you wander away from the masses of tourists and wander around with someone you love it's very romantic. I mean it's very beautiful, it has good food, and lovely cafes where you can just sit. But in the very touristy areas it's just like Piccadilly Circus but in a language I don't know!

I think it's romantic because there's stories of love to be told in paris and well it's paris!! and french oui oui you know the atmosphere is just breath taking and thats what makes paris romantic!

You must be with the right person to find Paris romantic. Otherwise it seems like all the other cities.

It's because so many romantic love stories happened there, both in history and in movies. Besides, these days people go to Paris following a pattern ---- Tour Eiffel, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysee, Notre Dame ,Moulin Rouge, Montmartre, Le Louvre. It's just boring---
Some places are worth exploring but nobody knows, such as Saint Michel, Pigalle, Chatelet, La Seine. These places are romantic and you will see the real Parisien life style.

I think it's the river, the many cafes, the lights, Notre Dam, the art gallery, the tube, and the Eifel Tower

Any city is romantic if you're there with the right person.

The French are meant to be the ultimate in romantics - hence Paris being a romantic city.

Any city is just a city if you're there for work / tourism not love and romance.
