As a foreigner who's been to the UK many times &has had English friends for years, I'd say just the contrary. I've always admired British people for not letting the weather affect their activities. Whenever it was raining I've had people twice my age beckoning enthusiastically at me saying 'come on, a few drops won't hurt you' and taking me places where any of their peers from most other nations wouldn't take the trouble of going in the best of weathers. In my country people change their plans and stay in if it starts raining, so spoilt they are and used to good weather. The Brits I know, however, never let that affect their life. They're much more community oriented too, and they do community work as volunteers, another example of practice non-existent in many countries. I actually admire the British for their lively and adventurous spirit and apathy is the last association on my mind when I think of them. |

The British public are not a nation. They are members of an assembly of nations, each with it's own national pride,on which point they are generally not apathetic, but on subjects which jointly affect all the nations,i.e. Britain as a whole, they are very apathetic.Maybe we would have the Spanish and French idealism if we also had their weather. And cooking. And carnivals. And joy of life. But we don't, and we're miserable. Pathetic being apathetic, isn't it? And that wet stuff all around us keeps us aloof as well. Wqter all round us,and most of the time ,more of it falling on top of us. What a joy Britain is!! Roll on the summer! |

I'm English and I know what you mean. I dunno why it's like that. I wish the British people would show a bit more emotion about stuff to. Although I do think we are just as emotional as everyone else we just don't show it as much. I agree with J it might be the weather. We get a lot of rain here. |

You mean apathetic, right? I don't really know. I love the fish and chips!! And it rains alot. Played alot of rugby. People get pissy. Football fans are a riot (literally)!!! I love it! But hate to see all the apathy there. |

what is the british nation? we are full of polish people, and all other walks of the world seeking asylum. So that must mean that all of Europe are appethetic too! they make up the british public now!
We are fed up of having to work our arses off whilst someone who doesnt even speak english sits on theirs and gets money off our government. Give me something to smile about! |

because so many of us are lazy and stupid, never giving anything our full thought or attention. A perfect example is your question...
"Why are the British public the most apathetic nation in Europe?"
...even that doesn't make full sense...but at least it's grammatically correct...
*jokes! ;) |

We were not apethetic when Hitler invaded/when France surrended/when the Berlin airlift was neededI guess we are just a bit tired after looking after everybody else. |

Unfortunately....when we do stand up for ourselves , we're beaten down by the 'Do-gooders' who bleat that we are being racist etc etc
I think the British public in general have just given up....its no longer their own country, and they are not aloud freedom to speak......cant even put up our own flag or celebrate St Georges day for Gods sake!!
Thats why I moved to live in Cyprus!!! |
