Why is there so much Turcophobia on the internet?

Additional Details
PS: By Turcophobia I mean anti-Turkish sentiment that stretches to the whole population of Turks living in this world, regardless of their beliefs and practices. A phobic attitude that presents hatred without rationalized thought, but through stereotyping...

So we know what we are talking about...

In Turkish we have a saying: 'kuyruk acısı...'
It means you have a past pain and you cannot forget it.
First of all some answerers who claim 'Turks have attacked and/or invaded their countries' for centuries are misinformed. For a greater part of its history the Ottoman rulers were not actually 'Turkish', but they spoke Turkish. They even killed their own Turkish subjects from time to time.
Secondly, Ottoman/Turks did not attack other countries without a legitimate reason. For example, Greek Orthodox people of Cyprus sent a letter of appeal to the Ottoman Sultan Selim II. to come and save them from Venetian Catholics. They even expressed their firm belief in Ottoman/Turkis justice.
Tirans have always feared Ottoman/Turkish intervention because their tortured subjects usually applied the Ottoman Sultan for help.
As for Ottoman suppression (as some Europeans claim), if it was as such, how come the Balkans are not all Muslims and speak Turkish? Quite the contrary, all these peoples had the freedom of using their native languages and practising their religions.
Mostly this Turcophobia is a myth. Asia Minor has been Turkish for centuries. In 1920, the Greek government and some Greek generals were backed up, encouraged by the British Prime Minister Lloyd George to invade western Anatolia. His aim was to 'use' the Greek Army to crash Turks once and for all, for the benefit of British imperialism.
Despite these facts, some political leaders in Europe have been feeding their people with an unbased Turcophobia. And then they talk of human values and human rights.
There is no more sex/drug trafficing in Turkey than any other western country. And many so-called democratic western countries have stained hands when it comes to human rights, democracy, and invading other countries (USA,France; UK etc.)

Ok I will answer this person from what I see amongst my English friends as the phobia is not just on the net but in life too. I love Turkey and almost all the Turkish people I have met have been lovely but my girlfriends can't understand why I like it there and how I can get along with the people there. The prejudice in this country comes more from ignorance than anything, they think all Turkish men are liars and cheats and only after your money or sex. They think that all Turks live the way that a lot of the Muslims in England live i.e. with the girls not being able to do/wear/say what they want. One day I would like to blindfold my friends and send them to Turkey without them realising it and see what they thought of it then. They probably would think they were in any number of mediterranean countries and would probably really enjoy it

Qu'est ce que tu pense?
People love to show their true feelings and emotions on the internet, because they are an anonymous user. I don't find that correct in reality though. I've not met one person (face to face) who has stated that they hated/disliked Turks. Either they are being honest by saying how much they like us, or they're hiding their opinions.

Leonarda
Excuse me...Have you made a ''tour''in the greek section?Go and see also what they write about us...You will not believe.
Dear..either you will get used to it, or you ll have stress everyday..
If you knew what they say about us, you would say''Is it possible that these things exist:''?Eh yes...
So, or ignore, or you ll find yourself with nervous breakdown because of ignorant people

Trotsky vs Kerensky- НекIо!
Because internet is the only place these cowards can excrete their hatred. I doubt anyone of them dared to say what they write here in real life, to a Turk. I have seen so many people killing, raping, torturing Turks on the internet, I find it quite amusing now.

Think about it, do you see any Turk - for instance, saying racist things about Bulgaria? No. Why not? Because they are insignificant for us. That is the main reason why we don't / can't hate them. They haven't done anything that affected us in history and they do not posses the potential to do so in the future. (ok not mentioning the slaughters carried out by Bulgarians and the fascist ATAKA.) Same is true for Armenia, which one of us periodically ask questions on Armenia? Which one of us virulently attack Armenians as the same way they do?

Our country has potential, I know in the future we will be more richer than most of the countries in Europe. If we were a weak state, do you think these people would deign to zealously bad mouth us? I don't think so. They expect us to be submissive but we never were and will never be. That is what distinguishes us from most of the countries, we have always won against all odds. No one helped us. Just take a look at our independence war, it truly is a miracle. If they failed to carve our country then, they never can in the future.

I am currently reading a lot of material on the first world war. It pains me to see what gruesome events happened to us and how we were the *barbaric* ones. The justice lady's blind eyes are wide open when we are the ones on the scale. But it doesn't matter, in the end of the day, we always win.

I can see why some people may be racist due to wars and so on, but why only against Turkey? The whole world during times of war has performed horrible acts. And let me tell you, the British, and the allies have done more harm to Greece and Cyprus and Asia minor, than Turkey ever did.
Now does that mean I have anything against British people
NO! We are not responsible for what our government does.

Turkish people lived alongside Greeks for many years, and have proven that they are good compassionate lovely people.
Living in a multicoltural country for many years I've met people of every culture, and there are good people everywhere? Why are we fighting for what our government does? We are the only ones that have nothing to gain.

Edit: Smoker, it's people like you who create racism. You're honouring a man that slaughtered whole nations. How would you feel if someone came on here saying how wonderful Hitler was? I guess what Alexander the Great did to you people was a good thing. Because along with the slaughtering he educated you!! No I don't really feel this way, but I'm trying to make a point about your answer.

Perhaps it is because people associate Turkey with genocide and pogrom.

Enlightened
Certain reasons, Turkey Being the former Superpower of Europe, Gate of Great Islamic Civilization, virtually was unbeaten, Only country in the world, Who has roots of both Eastern and Western Civilization, Turkey was in trouble when all Europe Decided to rip it off from World map, then Suddenly from Nowhere a Man (Ataturk) came and saved his country, Turkey is very progressive, After sometime it'll be challenging Europe in Economy, People who hate Turkey don't see what their countries are doing respectively, We Pakistanis have great respect for this wonderful nation, We share invisible bond, We Pakistanis love to see Turkey Ruling Europe again, Long live the name of General Kemal Ataturk

Are you ready to hear the truth? No, really, are you? If you're not, just don't keep reading my answer.

Ok, the answer can just be given with one word...HISTORY.
HISTORY has proved who Turks are.
HISTORY has proved how they act.
HISTORY has never proved people with "Turcophobia" or TURCOHATRED wrong.
I invite you to the Greek section to pose this same question. Do, if you dare to get some more real answers.
PS to the idiot who answered you that it's because of ignorance and low education... Greeks read TOO much history not to know better. And by the way, it wasn't a Greek who called Turkey a BANANA REPUBLIC, it was the President of the EU at the time. So, all of you... it's not Greeks that feel this way, it's simply everyone that you ever tried to invade!
