You're partially correct. It is mostly in Asia with a small part in Europe.

The Turks want the benefit of being in the EU, but they don't want to "behave" like Europeans.

Turkey is geographically, politically and officially part of two continents - Europe and Asia. The smaller northwestern portion (Thrace) is part of Europe, while the larger portion (Anatolia) is part of Asia.

So this is exactly what Turkey is all about: a westward extension of Asia.. Therefore Europe (by definition) should include Turkey.

1- Turkey is a member of the European Council
2- Turkey is a candidate for EU membership.
3- Turkey is in Eurovision
4- Turkey is in EUFA
5- Turkey is in ULEB
6- Turkey is a member of all European sports associations.
7- Turkey is a membe of all European scientific and cultural associations
Why do you think they allowed Turkey's membership to such organizations? Your geography books need some updating. The year is 2007, not 1918.

90% of Turkey lies in Asia but the turks want to associate themselves with the more sophisticated Europe, despite the fact that they have very little in common with Europeans. The remaining 10% was the stronghold of Greeks before the Ottoman took over. That's why it's considered Europe.

As for why Turkey is classified in Travel - Europe, I guess Yahoo is just being nice to the Turks, knowing that they're very keen to join the EU.

There is a European part of Turkey (the area around Istanbul) and the rest, across the Bosporus, which is known as Asia Minor.
