Definition of nationalist:

"patriot: one who loves and defends his or her country"

I don't see anything wrong with that. It would be awkward if it was the other way around.

Do you see a problem in that? Well, I don't.

Edit: "Too nationalist"s or extreme nationalists are a minority in Turkey. You can't generalize 70 million people under one term.

It is not the case.

Çetin
hi,
we are patriot because we love our country and Turkish citizens.
What about you?

olgafuriosa
Turks, in general, are not fervent overzealous nationalists. As the first answerer said, being patriotic and loving one's nation is optimal, and you can't really say that Turks are, as a whole, overly ethnocentric.

That said, not only do I disagree with your characterization, but in my opinion (note, it's an 'opinion'), what Turks need is to be more patriotic and nationalistic as a whole, rather than less, as you are implying.

The problem being, that one integral element of Turkish nationalism is a deep suspicion and fear of Christians and ethnic minorities that borders on paranoia. Turkish nationalism deems Christians to be an existential threat. As Turkish nationalism rises, so too does persecution of Christians.

Three martyred Christians -- Necati Aydin, Ugur Yuksel and Tilmann Geske -- were tortured and murdered by Muslim Turkish nationalists in Zirve Publishing House in Malatya, Southern Turkey on 18 April 2007.

As long as the truth of history is subservient to myth and "insulting Turkishness" remains a crime, then Turkey's Christians will have trouble as they will have to continue to bear the burden of Islamised history. Peace and reconciliation are the end products of a process that commences with truth and progresses through confession, repentance and forgiveness. There can be no peace and reconciliation without truth.

We are nationalist people cos we are proud wıth being Turkish.

We have a great history.

Also, you can see some people who try to insult us with fake claims as they see themselves as great people!

Being Turkish is about being some emotional maybe that s another reason.

aren't americans or russians or chineese or so and so.

Too nationalist? Is your assumption based on an observation?
Serbians, Croats, Armenians and Greeks are more nationalist. Go and visit these countres first and you'll know what I mean.
We are not fanatically nationalist.
We just love our country and our people and respect our ancestors. plain simple like that.
We do not glorify anything. We do not believe in the superiorty of our race. We love and prefer diversity. We do not meddle in the concerns of other countries.

Leprechaun
Turks are nationalist yes,but not too nationalist. But of course, there will always be extremists in everywhere.

And i agree with Ipek, that if nationalism won't turn into fascism then it's even a good thing for a country. What is wrong with people whom love their country?
