The Babe is Armed!

Will I ever like ayran?

I've tried it several times, and it always tasted different, depending on whether it was commercial or made in the restaurant. One time I actually got the whole glass down. Usually my companions would tell me it didn't have enough salt, but after they added salt, they would tell me it had too much salt. Is it possible that I would ever like ayran or am I a hopeless Westerner? :)
Additional Details
I know it's healthy. I love the yogurt with fresh bread. I think it's just always got too much salt. I don't like salt that much, so maybe that's the problem for me. I want to like ayran, it's just hard. And actually, I don't like root beer either.

Totally Blunt
Nıhahahahaha! I'm mad already! Who is this person that dares to question Ayran? Ha! <|:P

OK OK, you already know I am crazy.

Well, liking Ayran or not is a mind set, really. If you think Ayran as a drink, you may find the salty taste weird, because you are more used to sweet beverages. Instead, think ayran as a cold soup. Maybe you will enjoy it better then.

Like the sage said, Don't try to bend the spoon. Instead, realize the spoon.

(I, too, don't know what I said. Never mind me. We have a saying, Delidir, ne yapsa yeridir. Do you need a translation?)

Edit: No worries, Redcandy. The less you eat, the more is left for me. :)))

\
my english friends hated ayran at first but now they love it. susurluk ayrani best. you should know ayran is very healthy drink

Earthling
You gotta love it :))

I think what you're drinking your ayran with is a determining factor whether you like it or not. Try drinking ayran with bulgur pilavı hehe.

As an honorary Turk, you MUST love it, it's an order ! AH AH AH !

Well, I suppose Ipek gave you some good infos.
Depending upon the cities, the Ayran may have some light differences of flavour, due to quantity of salt and yogurt.
Maybe you didn't appreciate it just because it was made from sheep milk. In fact, cow milk is more appropriate.

Ayran, just by itself, is simply delicious.

But it's also a drink that we take with our meal, especially the dishes with meat, such as döner kebab, sis kebab,adana,izgara,etc....In fact, the contrast of the flavours, between the spicy meat and the cold and fresh milky Ayran is a particular and succulent taste.
In fact, you may enjoy better Ayran with meat, rather than beer, raki or wine. Just try once and you'll see !

I personally consider that the Ayran is even better with the Akhisar köftesi ( Akhisar is my hometown, district of Manisa province), with green spicy pepper, tomatoes and hot toasted bread...Simply a paradisiac sensation...

Wow, man, by talking about it you just woke up the ogre !! Aaaargh !

Ipek K
OMG...

WE don't talk to Westerners who doesn't like ayran... So Mister, you better pack your bags and move to a new "western" section !!!

:))

You may like it if it is made from whole milk yogurt- cow, not sheep milk-, served very very cold. It has to be thick -3 parts yogurt, 1 part water. You may want to add some salt and some dried mint to it.

BTW, you are aware of the fact that Blunt is going to be really mad at you, aren't you? :))

anlarm
Just keep trying. The first time I tried root beer I hated it. Then I got used to it and liked it.

.:::Niko:::.
it's hard to say. I like beer however some hate it. I can' eat lamb meat. "It makes me puke" I can't even smell it. Some people love it.

essential
Yes you will. It's just a matter of time :)

don't worry... don't force yourself to like something or anything.. if you don't like it, then you don't like it... but i think you go th solution by urself... it's too salty for you, and you don't like salt that much.. it's no big deal.. :)

so yeah you're hopeless ... lol

I've never liked ayran myself...I-run don't kill me!!! :)
I don't like plain yogurt, so that's why I don't like it.

Edit- In that case, I-run gets my ayran :)

Pinky
What's ayran?

Is it yogurt that u drink?

Edit:Ok so it is yogurt, cuz in Lebanon its called Eran, and hardly ppl drink it,we only drink it with ceratin served foods.
And if u dont like Ayran am guessing u dont like Milk, right?lol
