Will it be safe to visit Istanbul in August? What about cruising through the Greek Islands?

Considering the bombing breaking out in Isreal. I have a cruise scheduled for the end of August, should I plan to go somewhere else instead? (travel insurance would cover the costs)

I would be sad about going somewhere else, I am really looking forward to seeing all the beautiful mosques and palaces... but this war that broke out is looking pretty scary...

enjoy your vacation, you'll be safe

no worries

Turkey has never had and will never have anything to do with any of the conflicts that happen in the Middle East. They are Muslim but they do not get along with Arabs. In fact they have a better relationship with Israel and they will always stay neutral and out of trouble in this case.
No worries
advice from an italian.

look i am living in turkey istanbul and nothing had happened very bad since that bank bombing. i dont like others see us like terrorists. there is no war here. it had ended 40 years ago. OK?

Going anywhere in the world anytime now is not that safe anymore. So, why cancel? Don't let the Mid-East crisis cut your planned vacation to one of the world's best manifestation of a magnificent ancient civilization. Enjoy your cruise! Savor the feel of Turkey - did you know that this is the only country in the world situated in two continents, Asia and Europe? I'd also like to refer you to www.tourismturkey.org Visit this website for all the things you need to know and prepare for your trip. Bon voyage!

No, it's dangerous at all. Why should it be?

I just left Athens and Istanbul a few weeks ago. I think it is a pretty safe city right now. I am an American, and I definitely look American, but we were fine. I wouldn't change your plans unless you hear that Turkey is getting in on the war. Right now Lebanon and Israel have no reason to go after Greece or Turkey.

i don't think u have to change ur plans thinking of what happened in Israel.. of course there is always a chance something might happen but there is not any tension in Istanbul right now. considering that u'll visit touristic places (museums, mosques, churches) you'll be safe., the risk is just like u have anywhere else.. Have fun, Istanbul is really beautiful.. my advice; don't skip to go to the islands in Istanbul, they are really great!

istanbul is a great place. it has many places to be seen and also i think you should go to the night clubs at the bosphorus, they are amazing. if you are planning to go to Bodrum in the south then i recommend you to take at least a daily trip to the greek islands (such as rhodes) by boats. greek islands are fantastic especially at this time of year. enjoy your trip :)

I am an American living in Istanbul and have no particular worries about being here in August. Do come to our beautiful city and enjoy the history, food and people. Ignore the touts (who leap out at you from the storefronts and say silly things to entice you into their shops); if you want to look at the goods, do so and feel free to bargain; if if you don't, say Hayir, teshakular (no, thanks).
I recently went to the Greek islands of Samos and Chios -- the former has great beaches and the latter can be fun if you just wander. You will meet some delightful people.

You'll be fine. The Turks are wonderful people (and easy on the eyes too). Istanbul is beautiful, a bit of avarice, but it's a lovely place to visit.
