I guess that when the oil runs out the middle east will have to hope that the world is short of sandy rubble. so I cant see them going anywhere but down.
as technology goes the west is up thier for now. time can only tell for how long but its going to take something serious to change it. |

Of course it will. Look at it, it's been moving slowly westward for 2000 years or more, and now it's leaped the Pacific and ended up in Asia. :P Someday it will come around again.
East is east and west is west, and never the two shall meet. Keep going west and you just keep seeing everything all over again. :)
And 'bogazi I think you overestimate the US. I think our golden age was about 30 years before that. We haven't been civilized in about 70 years. :) |

Civilization started in Near east not in the West. So there is no "always" there. In fact there should be no "superior" there either. |

OF COURSE, YES! for example; Turkiye is included in Europa and it will be always superior than Armenia; oh that was really a great sentence and truth of u at the first time... |

If you were cultured enough, you would know that what you call Western civilization has its roots in India, Persia and Egypt.
So much for Western-ness. I say India trumps all.
Note for Rillifan... Who in Great Rome would foresee its downfall? Who could foresee the dark Middle-Ages in Europe, when philosophy and mathematics was thriving in the Arab world?
A thriving culture isn't egocentric. It takes from others, makes it mine and builds on it. Can you see the problem of EU now? Protecting "culture" with laws? |

It's not superior, simply different, and it owes its beginings to a lot of other civilizations that came before. |

Of course you realize "superior" is a highly, highly subjective word.
Superior economically? Maybe; who knows? I'd say doubtful.
And... um... wait, remind me again what else there is that Western civilization is undeniably superior in? |

I doubt you are asking this question seeking an reasoned answer but are merely trying to stir people up.
Nonetheless I will take the time to give you a serious answer.
Mankind has developed from its most primitive beginnings into what we call civilization over a relatively brief time.
Which area had the most advanced civilization over the centuries has shifted and, as several responders have pointed out, modern civilization owes its form to the contributions of many peoples.
The standard by which we judge which civilization is "superior" can be a very contentious point but it seems to me that there is an all but universal consensus that present day Western liberal industrial democracy is the most desirable.
From Beijing to Teheran and from Burma to Venezuela, educated people look to the Western model as the one that best insures individual rights and general prosperity because that is demonstrably what it does.
True, there are many people who bemoan what they see as the licentiousness and sexual immorality of the West. Others advocate more authoritarian regimes or structured societies. But throughout the educated classes everywhere the themes of Western Liberalism always rise to the fore and the events of the last half century seem to inevitably lead to the Western ideal.
There are those who argue that history is cyclical and that the present dominance of Western civilization is just another phase and that some other model will arise or that some other group will become dominant.
But there is also the notion that we are at the "End of History" and that man's development is not cyclical but teleological and with the development of Western Civilization we have reached the end point. This is not to say that Western civilization is yet been perfected but that the general principles upon which it is based are as good as it gets.
Further, one should consider that the ebb and flow of civilization that occurred in the past depended to a great extent on the fact that the world was a very much larger place before the development of modern means of transportation and communication. For most of mankind's history there was very little interaction between civilizations at physically large distances from each other. Today the world is a maze of interconnections and transglobal relationships.
Still, many point to this spot or that and claim that it will become the dominant power of the world and therefore the "superior" civilization. Most of this is, I think, mere wishful thinking. No one enjoys being the citizen of a presumed lesser nation or can fail to resent the dominance of another. Yet when viewed in light of the cold hard facts it seems clear that West will continue to dominate the world economy.
For example, China has been mentioned by at least one respondent and yet the fact is that China with four times the population of the United States has only about half its GDP. And that GDP has been earned at the price of such vast ecological damage, developmental distortion and political oppression that it will almost surely cause China to collapse into anarchy with a decade or two. India may have a burgeoning economy but half of all Indians drink and bath in water filled with human and animal feces. So yes, these two highly populated nations have managed to boost their GDPs but only at an intolerable price that cannot be long sustained. Indeed, both have done so by having their people labor as jobs that Westerners are unwilling to perform for the coolie wages that are paid by Chinese and Indian companies.
Until we move out into the stars and open up new worlds for development it seems almost certain that world economic relationships will remain fairly static.
So, the final answer to your question, whether you meant it to be serious or not, is yes, Western civilization will remain dominant for the foreseeable future. |

Perhaps not always but for the next 100 years it will still be superior. That's why the Turks are dying to be associated with Europe. |
