Would you...?

let your 15 y/o daughter and her 16 y/o friend go travelling? It would be just the two of them, they would have planned all of the flights and the hotels beforehand and would only be away for two weeks at the most. It would only be around Europe and would probably only be 3 different places. They are both very responsible and it would be the summer after they finish their GCSEs.

Would you let them go and please explain your reasons behind your opinion?

Thanks in advance.
Additional Details
The 15 y/o may actually be just 16 when they go depending on when they go. Would that make a difference to your opinion at all?

no, not after hearing about kids going missing and that girl who got her throat cut in italy.... they should wait until they are a bit older and more streetwise

no. im 15 and i wouldnt feel safe here in europe with just my best friend. the IGCSE is brutal...but not worth a trip to europe.

Paul
no, because a 15 year old is considered a minor and would not be able to travel on reputable airlines without a parent. This would leave her on a dodgy airline that would not look after her. Then the hotels she was staying in would also consider her a minor and not let her stay with out an adult so once agian left in a dodgy place.
So no for her own safety I would not!!

miss minx
no way wot wit all da british girls ect gettin killed aboard n foreign police not doin their jobs properly no way dnt let her go x

bronnimoose
Not a chance. They are just kids! If anything happened to them, you would never forgive yourself and you could be in big trouble. Its not about how responsible they are, its the fact they have not had enough experience to deal with things which they may encounter, they are vulnerable because they are girls and are young, there are a lot of bad people out there who would take advantage. You are mental.

delete
I think they are both minors so you would be breaking the law with the 15 yr old at least, also i doubt if they are mature enough if a serious situation arose!

StevieMo
No chance. Besides i don't think you can travel outside the country without an adult?

zakiit
My friend and I used to travel together abroad even as young as 13 but the climate is different now. Time was when a parent could drop you off at an airport into the care of a stewardess/steward and you would get taken right the way through until you found your meeting at the other end. However with all this pc stuff and the fact that children are not safe from predators anymore I would not let my children go at that age.

15 and 16 might be okay. Just make contingency plans and lay down the law that you will ring them at certain times of the day or keep in contact in osme other way.

Hi, No, no way would i let my 15 year old go travelling in Europe alone. There are to many people out there willing to take advantage of young girls, they may be very responsible girls but they are still minors and there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there. When they get to 17 then yes they will be a bit older and wiser, even then travel agents will ring you up to see if it is OK for them to go, and you have to give written permission. So please if they want to go abroad take them with you, let them have their own room and a bit more freedom than they usually have and then you will know they are safe.

I would like to say yes, because travel is a great experience with many benefits, but I just can't.

The world has changed in the last few years, there are too many nasty people out there. Leave it for a couple of years.

If I were you, I don't think I would. 15 and 16 year olds are young. There are a lot of freaky, sick people in the world. I do beleive it would be a trip they would always remember and it would be great for them. I would really send an adult with them. How can a 15 y/o and 16 y/o even rent a room in a hotel? I just don't think it's a great idea....just the two of them.

murphywingedspur
Regardless of how responsible they are....its other less responsible people around them that you would have to consider!! Also, as they would still be considered to be 'minors', I'm not sure if they would be covered by travel insurance.
Its very brave ( both of them, and you) to consider it, but, personally, I'm sorry, I just wouldn't be happy about it at all.

Just as a thought, this is a place which is due to be up and running by late Spring,;
www.soul-adventure.com..........this is a new venture, where all tastes would be catered for, either sightseeing, adventure sports, or just plain relaxing by the sea...but a 'host' would be on hand 24 hours a day to help arrange and supervise any type of activity you want. At least you would know they would be in safe hands. Still not sure about the insurance tough!!

papaja4
Hi, I think if you trust them and believe them enough that you will let them go, just do it. Show them that you trust them. Of course get as much information from them, each place they'll be, they'll go! Do what's best for them. If they're mature enough to take care of themselves just let them go.

Moreno
it looks at it if orapaz will be of much confiaça of the family it could travel yes to travel with it.

Yes, as long as they are going together, that's fine. They have each other. And if the 16 y/o is a girl as well. From what you stated, they seem like mature, and are old enough not to get into troubles or anything, and they probably will enjoy. I would also keep in touch with them, like call them or let them call you at nights just to feel safe and have a peace of mind.

of course... cause every parents know that their child will grow sometimes... how do everything by themselves if we don't trust them...

Peter R
If you are sure that they are sensible enough, and that you will not suffer too much anxiety, give them the chance. With mobile phones and the internet, they should be able to check in with you at least once each day. They seem to have shown great initiative already.
