Been to both. Madrid has its charms, it's beautiful and has lots to see. But I gotta say there is no place like Paris. One or the other? In your only shot at one? Paris, hands down. Don't forget your comfy shoes, 'cause all you're gonna want to do is walk around, check the place out, and plan your next at-least-one-week-long trip there. With someone you love, preferably. |

Paris is much more interesting than Madrid. Paris has far more in the way of history. Madrid is a newer city (dates only to around 1600), and very little of its past is preserved. Madrid does have some good art museums and an interesting royal palace, but the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, and Versailles far surpass anything in Madrid. And Paris is a much more beautiful city - most of Madrid is modern and unattractive, and many parts of the city are run-down. |

I'd go to Paris for the museums and I'd go to Madrid for the nightlife. It depends on what you're interested in doing. Both cities have their pros and cons. If you just wanna get smashed and party till dawn then Madrid's the best place. If you want to see some great museums, palaces, culture, then Paris is the place for you. |
