1. Geographically, Turkey is a transcontinental country, with more than 97% in Asia (Anatolia) and less than 3% in Europe (Balkans).
2. Culturally, Turkey is an Asian Country, similar to other Turkic Countries such as Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan etc.
3. Ethnically, Turkish people are not considered to be ethnic Europeans since they don't belong to the Indo-European Supergroup.
4. Politically, Turkey is a Eurasian (transcontinental) Country and the connecting link between Asia and Europe, East and West.
5. With regards to Religion, Turkey is a progressive muslim country, unlike most European Countries, which are christian Countries.
N.B. The majority of European Nations/ People do not consider Turkey to be a European Country. |

Turkey is the first country in Asia and Asia rocks. From the begiining of times, except for Egypt, Asian culture has always been far more developed than European. Europeans merely copied everything. If it weren't for Turkish ancestors who invented agriculture,we would still be hunting berries in the forest. |

It has nothing to do with what i would say.
Turkish Republic is in the political and partly in the geographical map of Europe.
What comes to my wills: I hate this issue of being European or non-European. It sucks. Those Europeans who allways are focusing on EXCLUDING someone or some country, they are being lower and lower, that they cant even see. What's more, they give away how racist they are.
That's actually true. "Europe": where nationalism and its counterpart racism was born. Europeans may now have higher standards compared to anywhere else other than North America, Japan and Australia and that makes them feel so privilidged as a European. However, that s only being an ignorant person, or even a fool, coz nobody knows what happens tomorrow.
Furthermore, the European state, France, which accepted the so called Armenian genocide, committed several genocides in Africa.Do I need to mention the only country who was independent was the Liberia (not more than 1% of the whole continent) once and all the continent had been shared by the the British, the French, the Belgian, the Portuguese, the Spanish and the İtalian.
I cant even count how many colonies the Great(!) Britain had in the past.
The Danish committed a genocide against new comer Germans.
I dont even need to mention what Hitler did.
Even the country who has highest standards today, only since it has oil, Norway committed ethnic cleansing against traveller Taters in order to keep Norwegian blood pure.
And Sweden, the country names itself most egalitarian among others and holds the first rank in donating money to the developing countries... 25% of the economy of Sweden depends on military indstry. And guess whom Sweeden sells its guns to :the African tribes.
Now most European states are living in wealth. (Please dont say, "Oh because we are soooo so intelligent and hard working!" none of us is a fool)
Do I want to be a part of this sh*t?
Do you guess so, European?
Of course not!
I feel so comfortable with my lower GPA and with my country having not exploited an African country
AND its a Mediterranian country, Turkey! |

If there are any criteria to be qualified to be a European country, can you tell me what they are, as I do not really know the exact rules that should be taken into account when defining one. However, until now, I have always thought there was a kind of cultural diversity in Europe...
To be honest, we are not dying for being considered European at all, but the hypocritical behavior of some "European" people make most of us sick. Cyprus is geographically in Europe, but Turkey not? And, Eastern European countries share the same culture with Northern European countries such as Sweden and Bulgaria? If it is not the same religion (catholics, orthodox and protestants do not seem to be fond of each other though...), what's that they share?
The idea not to consider Turkey a European country is to conceal your religious intolerance and racist views. It is a great way to dupe people. |

Turkey is a Turkish country.
If you think the Ionians were European, then Turkey is.
If you think Europa was European, then Turkey is.
On the other hand, Turkey isn't, say, Germany, thank God! I have nothing against Germans, but I am veeery glad to be Turkish. |

There has to be a crossover,it has to be somewhere, and Turkey is the crossover. Its what makes Turkey unique! The bridge between Europe and Asia.Is that not an interesting and rich place to be? We have the best of both worlds, while Europeans are just Europe and Asians are just Asia.
Please explain to me what a European culture is.Is it being christian? is it being white? is it being democratic? |

The Western side of Turkey tends more to be European. I lived in South East Turkey which is more Arabic in its style. Most Turkish people would prefer to call themself Middle Eastern as most dont want to be part of the EU! They are taught to be sooooooo patriotic they are very proud to be Turkish, probally would like to think its their own little continent.lol. |

my perceive is that europeans're always being unfair to us if it's not a european why they've been officially recognized as a European country in 1853 (the Paris Treaty) if it's you can say that why turks're based on Muslim values etc. infact turkey which shares a common history and culture with eastern europe (write a european history without turks) is more secular, modern country than some balkan countries also belongs to Asia and shares many common things from Altai mountains to Anatolia so i'd say both the strange thing is that all europeans have different culture, race but the one thing always in common is their fear of Turks it's like the fear of communism you know it can knock on europe's door anytime btw balkan is a turkish word how it has nothing to do with europe |

What is the deal here if it is not geographic so would you say Bulgaria is a European country. If your answer is yes so go to suburbs of Sofia. What about the scenes I saw in the ghettos of Paris on the way to downtown from airport. Also villages of Dublin?
So terminology European is somehow tricky. Question is not clear so you will find unclear answers. |

A little bit on one side of the Bosporus straight is geographically European but even this part does not feel European. |

Most map makers will believe only the small area south of Bulgaria is considered to be geographically part of Europe. It is just considered easier to separate Europe and Asia (or any other continents) by mountain ranges (EG. Ural and Caucasus), rivers or other major water bodies (EG. the Black, Marmara and Aegean seas and Strait of Gibraltar in the case of Europe and Africa) rather than by political boundaries that can change over history. So it's not a matter of Europe doesn't want to be associated with Turkey or that Turkey is culturally different from the rest of Europe, it's just a matter of simplicity. You could consider Egypt and other north African countries part of Asia because of cultural similarities of Arabs, but in fact they are not considered to be part of Asia, because of the Suez canal as well as the Red sea are simply boundaries. Although this thought can be refuted by the fact that North and South America are separated by a political boundary, that of Colombia and Panama as well as Europe and Asia separated by that of Russia and Kazakhstan for lack of a better boundary.
Cyprus is considered part of Europe only because they are a member of the EU. Geographically they are still part of Asia. |
