Thanks to the strike we have in France 5 weeks off and a lot of social protections, but because of the strike today i had to go to work by walking and loose many apointments...

Yeah, France has great unions.
workers are protected in France.

Thanks to the strike, and others like it, we (in France) have the best workers' rights of any nation in the world.

it might be a pain, but it is about more than extra time in your commute, or a hassle about garbage.

In France, workers can use strikes as a form of protest. In the U.S., strikes can only be used during the actual contract negotiations, or more specifically, when they break down. It's very regulated. Here in France, it's much more liberal.
