The Paris underground is excellent and clean, with frequent , fast and numerous trains, and stations are often quite close to one another. You can buy 10 tickets in one go (un carnet) or passes for several days according to your needs and it is very cheap.
However you do have to watch your possessions and particularly your wallet or bag. There is an organised network of pickpockets that home in on tourists and are great opportunists in trains, and some people in big stations that distract you by addressing you on some pretext or other whilst an accomplice picks your bag or your pocket. Sadly this is why French people often now no longer stop to give directions.
Many European capitals have problems of this kind as there has been an influx of gypsies and vagrants from Eastern European countries that prey on the unwary. |

Be sure to check the overhead board of the incoming train because if you catch the express you might bypass your station and have to back track. Also be sure if they issue you more than one ticket to keep them separate otherwise you will accidentally use one to enter and one to exit and waste one. |

No, I've used it countless times and have always found it fast and efficient. Like everywhere else, beware of pickpockets, especially when getting on or off the train. |

Yes. Was pickpocketed in a Paris subway. The guy was a magician. Stay away from Gare du Nord train station and when standing on a subway train, always keep your purse or backpack in front of you where you can see it. Don't store everything in one place but rather, distributed cash and credit cards in pockes that zip. |

The trains come and go pretty fast so always make sure you're on time. |

My brother and I boarded a crowded subway car (our mistake) and he had his camera stolen which was in a case under his jacket and never felt a thing. If you are faced with having to ride like sardines, skip the train and take the bus. I never carry a purse, all money is tucked in my deep front pocket. If I must bring a purse, I put a lock on the zippers. |

No, the metro is a good system.
However, if you are foreign and on your own, be aware that there are some rather dodgy individuals there. I was followed onto the metro at Centre Pompidou by a dodgy individual who kept attempting to talk to me, he sat down fairly far away and I didn't want him knowing where I was staying, so I jumped off the metro just before the doors shut.
Use your commonsense and you'll be fine. |

Well, I use it every day but I can't really think of any terrible experiences. I've had a few disgruntled drunk people ranting about how everyone is racist, and throwing bits of bread at people. Oh, and I saw a homeless person who fell down the stairs at the metro. Oh, and then there was the strikes. That was crazy. So many people crammed into one train. But nothing that'd put me off of going on the metro. It's fast, clean and efficient. |
